lysine's serotonin lowering effects
Cool @Pet Peeve! I feel it as well - I take only occasionally as I feel it is needed by my system - works fast and effectively. I have never used it continuously for more than a few months...Ah yes, I can feel it now on the third day of supplementation. Amazingly strong effect too. What a great substance, on par with taurine.
@Dopamine Do you notice any water retention in your gut/swollen belly?
Why is it that if serotonin is so negative and evil, which is clearly the prevailing sentiment held by this community, then why do so many studies and scientists and academics believe that serotonin is the "happiness" chemical? I am struggling deeply to understand how these two positions could be so polarized. On one hand, we have numerous success stories of posters on the forum claiming they cured depression through anti-serotonin drugs. On the other hand, we have plenty of outside evidence of people taking pro-serotonin drugs and claiming their depression is lifted. My freind swears by 5-htp, a serotonin agonist, and regardless of my preaching to him about the merits of decreasing serotonin, he loves the stuff and takes it everyday.
How's it going @Dopamine ?? Any better, worse?I'm dissapointed that niacinamide is not working anymore
I'm going to try greatly increasing the amount I exercise because I have become a couch potato. I used to play lots of sports before getting more into video games and becoming depressed and inactive. I have seen studies showing exercise works better than antidepressants maybe by increasing heart rate, dopamine, improving insulin sensitivity etc... That's the last idea I have for myself except maybe buying a blue light lamp for seasonal affective disorder though I don't think that's Peat approved...
I was more active on the days I felt good so maybe that's it.
Yes, my depression completely disappeared once I got help for hypothyroidism. Day to day life prior to this came with a large dose of exhaustion that consumed my life for 40 years. I'm surprised I survived going from doctor to doctor, only to be told nothing was wrong. I was the queen of sleep. I could sleep anywhere anytime and then again all night. Interestingly, each time I was pregnant the exhaustion would completely disappear and I would get a break. (4 times) This should have been a HUGE clue to the doctors. I finally gave up on orthodox methods and hooked up with Lita Lee, who turned my life around once and for all.
Eating up to 15 grams of salt per day is a good way to healthfully raise GABA; 6-10 grams is a good number.
I put about 1.5 TBSP of salt in a frappucino. Salty soup is another good way to get sodium. I never had a problem eating more or less sodium; I generally find I consume less than the optimal amount.Interesting....did you just do capsules of salt? Did you have to increase over time to get up to that much or was it easy?
...My grandson benefited .... At the age of 7 his platelets dropped to a life threatening level for no apparent reason. We took a stab in the dark due to some other symptoms he was experiencing and gave him a low dose of thyroid glandular. His platelet numbers came up substantially but when we were faced with taking him to specialists they "ORDERED" us to stop. After a family meeting we decided that if we didn't listen and my grandson died, that we'd face criminal charges. After two months his teacher came to us, asking what was wrong with Davyn? His platelets had in fact crashed. Now we had proof and took him to the same doctor who was helping me. He cussed out the specialists and immediately wrote a prescription for thyroid glandular and a monthly lab test for thyroid and platelet levels....
I have tried catuaba tea a few weeks ago not for depression just for trying ... And it gave me such a well being state... made me euphoric wanting to go out and just party or hang with friends and talk talk talkTry catuaba tea. For me, it took away lethargy and apathy in just one day. My state back then was somewhat severe. Nowadays I feel clear-headed. I have bigger appetite and better digestion. It's like dopamine boost, but without euphoria.
Ssri causes physiological stress and body compensate by increasing allopregnenolone(potentiating Gaba...causing a short term inhibition...) and in short term you feel calm... But then as your body runs out of allopregnenolone you will see the nasty sides coming with erratic behavior and emptiness...I have to disagree on the serotonin front. I was put on an SSRI when I was younger for social anxiety when I wasn't remotely depressed.
It gave me some more "get up and go" and a little more self confidence. I actually exhibited symptoms of high serotonin (my pupils were dilated almost all the time - one pupil bigger than the other). Depression can be caused by many different things but low serotonin is certainly not a good thing, in the same way that high serotonin isn't a good thing.
The high serotonin didn't particularly effect my mood - perhaps higher morning happiness. I felet very content in the mornings in those days.
This was exactly my dad's experience (except about the pregnancies!). I got him started on TyroMix last fall, and two of the biggest benefits have been that he no longer dozes all afternoon long, and his depression is gone. (He'd been on synthroid for decades to no effect.)Yes, my depression completely disappeared once I got help for hypothyroidism. What thyroid supplement do you take? When I finally found a doctor who would listen and take me seriously, it was only after I had to resort to bringing thyroid across the border via several different sources. Once I was able to figure out the proper dose through trial and error I was forced to approach a doctor for help since I was unable to access thyroid "supplements" any longer. I'm glad I didn't give up and when I spoke to the doctor, I promised that I wouldn't make, what had happened to me about blame. I just wanted to move on and help others avoid my path. My grandson benefited from all of this as well. At the age of 7 his platelets dropped to a life threatening level for no apparent reason. We are now in charge of our own health and have the support of a doctor who respects us for educating ourselves. What a ride eh!!!
