I agree with the NOW recommendation--I don't see any reason to buy Great Lakes gelatin. I wish there were a cheap source of bulk collagen hydrosylate, but that's another matter!

No but I use this one by NOW which is only $34.94 for 5lbs and free shipping http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017W ... PDKIKX0DER

I had emailed the company before and its only made from cows skins (no bones) just like Great lakes.

Crap, having the worse luck lately. They sold out, and I found another source and its $10 more. :(

Thanks for the info, Destiny. Good to know about the source.

I also use the NOW gelatin.

Charlie: Just FYI in case you missed this...You can save a few dollars by placing a recurring order with Amazon ("subscribing"), e.g. monthly or bi-monthly. If you subscribe, you can always cancel an order, so you're not giving up much to get the discount. Hope your luck turns around soon!

Here is a possible good cheese source in for North Americans. Based in Canada.

http://springbankcheese.ca/catalog/

Company lists rennet free cheese, organic cheese from cow, goat and sheep. For the life of me, I cannot source a rennet free or even animal rennet cheese locally.

This looks like an exciting possibility! Gonna check into it further.

If anyone has experience with this company, please let us know.

The Now foods brand is sufficient, but requires that you ingest more to have equivalent results. It is of a lower quality and has a lower bloom. I like to make a hard-set jello for the kids using fruit juice, and the amount required compared to Knox, or the bulkfoods.com brand is noteworthy. I don't have the figures in front of me, but I calculated that I was better off purchasing from bulkfoods.com than using the Now Foods brand.

For coconut oil, I use Tropics Best. They are certified organic and produced in Mexico. However, their pricing is all over the place, depending upon when you visit them. Do note that when their cases of bottles go on sale it usually means they are nearing the expiration date (4-5 months). I can't really comment on the overall price with shipping compared to others because I pick it up from their warehouse in New Braunfels, TX. I have found the quality and taste to be excellent.

The distributor is quite nice and easy to work with. Next time I stock up I plan on asking if they've ever considered importing the coconut flour.

Has anyone tried this gelatin besides AnnB? Was thinking of ordering some to make my gummy bear stuff.

Yes, I am using it now. For MY purposes, it behaves the same as the now brand from Amazon and the Azure standard brand. I found the now brand cheaper from EVitamins recently, also available at discount by subscription. I can go through 5 lbs in a month, so it pays to shop around. I have never used the hydro stuff, the kind that dissolves in cold water, so can't speak to that.

:woo Jenn's back!!

I can go through it quickly too and will shop around. I just ordered the hyrdo stuff to try as well but want to have both kinds on hand for making different things!

Thanks for the tips. I think setting up a subscription may be a good idea too.
