What you guys think of ginger? I read some older posts where people posted some studies that ginger lowered serotonin. Is there anything new to know about it? According to studies, ginger quite powerfully increases gut motility and is used to treat bacterial overgrowth. Even some SIBO specialist doctors recommend it instead of gut motility drugs. Opinions?

I've tried it on occasion and never really made a big deal of difference for me. I didnt use freshly grated gingre though. Added to the carrot salad with some coconut oil and salt it could be a very powerful combo for gut issues.

When I was troubled by gut issues I tried ginger crystals, not fresh, aware of its medicinal properties.
It unfortunately did not help my gut issues. But I was not bothered by the ginger.

I turned to phages.

I cook with dried ginger all the time (almost every meal). It took a week or two to adjust to the taste. I did not consider the seretonin issue. I was influenced by an article entitled "6-Shogaol Inhibits Breast Cancer Cells and Stem Cell-Like Spheroids by Modulation of Notch Signaling Pathway and Induction of Autophagic Cell Death" http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article/file?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0137614&type=printable

This is a link to a nice short (4 minute) video that highlights the article.

See also another short video (looks like a tv clip) with people talking about the article above. Both videos explains that dried ginger which is ground at low temperatures (with heating) is 10,000 times stronger than chemo

Bon Appétit

does anyone still take ginger on a regular basis? I think its true that it increases gut motility. Yesterday i drank very much ginger tea made from fresh ginger and today i got a real good bowel movement ;)

But immedietely after drinking ginger tea i often dont feel too good (heart pounding etc), could ginger cause some sort of die-off reactions cause its antimicrobial? If that its the case maybe it would be good to continue for a while and see if it gets better after a while.

Another thing that came to my mind is that it could make a big difference if someone takes fresh ginger or dried powder. And the fresh ginger beeing way more powerful as this study came to my mind:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0378874112007404

This study shows that only fresh ginger acts as an effectice anti-viral compared to dried ginger.

I think Ginger is good. Something that has helped me lately with severe digestive issues is D-limonene.

that sounds good as i remember most herbs inhibiting this enzyme? But i am not sure about that :)

Any idea what my temporary negative symptoms after drinking ginger tea could be? (heart pounding, bloated belly) Could that be die-off symptoms? I mostly drink it with honey so low blood sugar cant be a problem i guess.

If you eat rice, do a very strong broth of ginger first and then cook the rice until complete absorption of water.

dont drink tea unless its safe cause really toxic high burden of toxins only organic and most organic teas are still toxic i recommend you buy teas which re tested on toxins and also there some veggies or herbs which increase cyp450 like brocolli, ginger, garlic and onions. For herbs it is gingko and ginseng in dosages over 2 weeks

I eat ginger from time to time - sometimes fresh root in stir fries or stews, occasionally as tea, sometimes ground ginger, eg with rice and fruit, sometimes crystalised ginger as snacks.
Tastes good every way. My gut seems to like it. Not noticed any negative effects. My hunch is it's generally positive, but nothing definite or pronounced enough to describe.

I think ginger is great.

It is a strong anti-microbial. Therefore if you feel a sore throat coming on ginger tea, with honey, is an effective way of keeping it at bay. It also seems to have a role in keeping your gut bacteria in check.

Ginger is reputed to help with movement and 'quickness'. Many people have trouble sleeping if they take a lot of ginger tea at night.

Ginger syrup is good; can make it much stronger than the kind used in regular ginger ale.

Not sure what if anything gets destroyed in the process though.

Hi @EIRE24 would you mind describing more about your experience with D-limonene? I also heard it was good.
I had awful stomach pains and troubles. I think I was eating far too much meat and not enough carbs or fat and the protein I was eating was either producing too much ammonia which was a burden or it was just sitting in my system not digesting. I had to stop eating red meat. I started taking HCL, d-limonene and magnesium and these have all seemed to help and stomach troubles are gone. The D-limonene definitely was the most effective tho, I'm certain of that. I could feel the citrus oil in my stomach creating a burning feeling but not uncomfortable, sort of like turning up digestive powers. I could also taste the orange scent when I burped and it totally cleared the gerd. I knoe citrus is very problematic for some and I have noticed that my acne has gotten slightly worse so I'm not sure if I'm one who struggles with citrus but I will continue to take it as I'd rather have acne than the awful stomach troubles I was having they were excruciating.

Didn't you say you had stopped starch with success this time after failing the first time? There is quite a bit of information online regarding the use of lemon juice. It's a nice addition to orange juice. Ginger broth (possibly made while steaming potatoes to add nutrients) and lemon juice is a good combination. Of course the famous strong ginger broth with rice followed by addition of lemon juice on the rice and some honey is great too.

Yes I think actually that stopping starch and vegetables (well cooked) could have a lot to do with why I got stomach issues again. Just a guess but adding back in rice and veggies has helped for sure too.
