I'm not even gonna watch it
'cause I know it's gonna tell me I have to somehow sleep
without AC through this devilishly hot Southern summer!

I think we should ignore any video that uses the word "emergency cardigan."

Well I don't recommend viewing it to persons of your chauvinistic stature, narouz

People have always commented favorably upon my chauvinistic stature.
You're saying...I should rethink that?

I'm gonna vote this one down.
We don't want the extra estrogen to make the women dress ISIS style.
Let them just supplement some T3.

I don't know... what did you think about excessive air conditioning?

I don't know exactly what you mean by excessive.
But I really love air-conditioning.
My main AC love is at night in the horribly humid, still, hot, typical seasonal night time conditions.
I've lived without AC in those climates a lot in my life.
It is hard to sleep.
That's why they used to have Sleeping Porches in this region.

Another AC application, my little truck.
It is heavenly to have it.
Heavenly, I say!
But i do try not to use it.
It really saps my trucks power.

Also, it would be fair to say,
I do have some kind of ingrained thing about doing without.
I practice doing without in my truck, often.
And in my house.
Why?
Maybe it's rooted in thrift...?

Maybe it is an instinct toward health?
I do spend a lot of time in like 95 degree heat with just a fan.
I tell myself this helps me in some way. :)

I'm nodding my head here, thinking this is absolutely my reality. :)

I have absolutely come into my workplace in short sleeves or sleeveless and had to put on 3 layers of wool to not be rigid with cold in on a lovely summer's day. I love 25 degrees unless I'm walking up a steep hill at speed.

I think there may be difficult logistics, though, trying to keep a large open-plan multi-storey cubicle farm at temperatures suitable for everyone.

Maybe the discrepancy lies somewhat in the workplace dress code? If you look at the men in the background, they are in long sleeves and double layers, while the female interviewer is wearing a sleeveless top. And she's probably also wearing a skirt with strappy sandals, so more skin is exposed. Basically, she is dressed appropriately for the summer season. Are men allowed to wear shorts, sandals, and sleeveless tops during the summer at most office jobs? I doubt it. You could perhaps say the dress code is sexist in favor of women.

I had no clue what you meant by "chauvinistic stature,"
so I was just playing along.

I steeled myself and watched the video.
I'd heard the same kind of report last week on NPR.

Actually, I can't agree with the conclusions,
based upon my own experiences.

A while back I worked in a place with cubicles.
So there was one temp setting for everyone--
about equal male/female.

The women--especially one woman--had gotten control of the thermostat.
They really shouldn't have had that control--
they just bullied their way and the supervisor was too weak to stop them.

That woman always had the thermostat jacked up to like 77 degrees or more.
She would sit around in her dress--no sweater or extra stuff
while the rest of us were down to our short sleeve shirts and still feeling very uncomfortable.
Finally, we rebelled--both sexes, but I guess it was mostly men--
and got the thing set at some reasonable compromise.

Then, more recently, I worked in a school with like 90% females (adults).
In this case, the female students would get into the thermostats,
which were supposed to be left set at the boss's (a female) level of like 72 degrees.
Again, those female students would jack up the temperature so that
all the men and many of the females were roasting.

I would note that in both job scenarios the women getting control of the thermostats were obese
for the most part.

I'm not sure what the Peat contextualization of this might be.

Well I suppose if you feel cold all the time, your body will provide some isolation for you :ss

That's what I meant to write... but perhaps there will be other effects as well :ss

I dare say the dress code has it's effects in many places, but where I work, it is not unusual for some of the guys to wear shorts and sandals and T-shirts (while I'm in woolley socks, trousers, and 2-3 layers of long sleeves).
