Public Speaking- Dry Lips And Bright Red In Face

Does anyone know of any peaty hacks for this issue. Obviously you can't control whether you go bright red in the face and get dry lips or not, but what is going on physiologically when this happens?

If you are a guy I can tell you what helped me. I had this issue in my teens and early twenties. When I stopped masturbating and watching porn so much and had my longer streaks it almost diminished completely. After approximately two years into NoFap I was no longer blushing during such events. I am not sure what reason it could be but I suspect it is connected to the constant down regulation of your androgen receptors in your brain, the up regulation of oestrogen receptors and the positive up regulation of your GABA which regulates overstimulation during such events, also to mention is that a high state of dopamine lowers social anxiety.

In my experience the correlation is more related to those neurotransmitters than to a psychological problem.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Nofap is truly a cure for social anxieties.

what if this happened to a girl or someone unable to fap because they haven't gone through puberty or their gentiles got removed in a freak gasoline fight accident? What would be the suggestion?

Lol. Increasing 5-AR should help. Consuming collagen will upregulate 5-AR and balance amino acid intake leading to a calmer mind through enhanced neurostroids and such. Glycine is also a neurotransmitter itself and has both inhibitory and stimulating actions that seem to promote calmness. Consuming zinc (through oysters is best) should also help as it enhances androgenic activity especially in the brain through increased androgen receptor binding potential and hormone production. Eating a caloric surplus would also promote a calmer mind. Having good gut health is also very important for managing anxiety.

Of course it was not a 2 years streak of NoFap, it always has its ups and downs but in the end you change your brain significantly. I started to supplement zinc etc years before stopping this habit but the changes were minimal. Everything that supports neurosteroids would be probably helpful like androsterone or 5 alpha dhp because of the calming effect which comes with it and the suppression of over stimulation due GABA.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'll look into NOFAP. From test results I already have high zinc so don't really want to supplement that.

Would glycine alone work instead of a collagen supp?

Apparently in the past those involved with theatrical productions would commonly breathe into a bag before their performance. Bag breathing will increase carbon dioxide, increasing circulation and the ability of cells to fully oxidize glucose.

Tried everything.
Beta-blocker, 50 or 100 grams, about one hour before the show.

From zero to hero.

Dont bother with anything else.

What kind of public speaking event is this?

The best things that work for me are practicing (saying pretty much the entire thing out loud at least once), and making sure you know the material back and forth.

I've seen people and doctors recommend xanax and similar tranquilizing crap for public speaking, but that is the best way to screw up your performance or presentation. Beta-blocker doesnt mess with your head, it handles your heart beat, breathing and adrenaline.

really interesting about the beta blocker. so would something like propranolol work. only thing is i almost fell asleep last time i took propanolol

I take atenolol, it's more heart focused and with fewer potential side effects.

The only down side i have noticed is that climbing stairs at around that time will make you more exhausted, so take an elevator. Other than that the only effect is absolute calmness. And I mean dead calm.

This, or better yet, training in calm breathing long term, with a bit of dedicated practice before performance, look like they could be worth a try.
It's easy to hyperventilate while stressed and talking, if you have any tendency in that direction.
For short term emergency measure before going out front, even without a paper bag, get comfortable, sitting or standing, close your mouth, deliberately relax body and lungs to breath out, and let the breath stay out until you feel the need to breath in. Then just take as small a breath as you need, and do it again.
During speech, close your mouth at every full stop, and breath in through your nose.
You can practice both of these between times.
