I did. Are you saying the U.S. and the Soviets were in cahoots together? Or that they both cooked up the conspiracy at the same time independently? Either one is highly unlikely. The science behind getting to the moon and back is not even as new as Einstein. You only need Newton to figure out how to do it. And a space race between two superpowers explains the timing of when it happened.

I'm not saying that Wag The Dog type of events never happen. But this isn't one of them.

He just wondered why Russia didn't say anything but they did.

Lee Smolin's "The Trouble With Physics: The Rise of String Theory, The Fall of a Science, and What Comes Next" is a worthwhile read. He also contends that the late 1970's was pretty much the end of progress (but from a physics point of view).

And as an aside: Paul Volker contends that there has been no innovation in banking since the ATM, which first appeared in the late 1960's but didn't become common till the late 1970's.

Thanks for the stuff on Thiel. I'll read it as soon as I can.

From what I can tell, that Daily Mail article was about comments a Russian official said in 2015. I'd be more interested in what the Soviets had to say about it in 1969.

I don't know but I have a feeling it wasn't along the lines of "curtain rods and gold glitter".

The interview where Peat talked about SAT scores going down after the nuclear testing in the 50s sticks in my mind. If the high end of IQs are suppressed, where will the advances come from? With pollution and degraded food, health is also declining. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were highly intelligent and fit. I wonder if their equal exists today.

All age groups except the over 70s crowd (who enjoyed relatively good lives) are seeing increased mortality. Even if people are not getting dumber (and I think they are) more potential Einsteins die before they get to make their mark on science.

I think the scenario of the moon landing NOT being a hoax is scarier. If mankind was capable of landing a man on the moon, using primitive technology and computing capacity available in a modern Casio watch then what does that say about the (lack of) scientific progress over the last 45 years? We have regressed, not progressed. I'd rather have it that the moon landing was a hoax performed in 1969 and that now we are in a better position scientifically than we were in 1969 when the hoax was performed. I guess still not a good enough scientific progress point to put man on Mars or (back) on the moon. The greatest technological innovation for 2015 was a cool new way to browse Twitter feeds.
It's scary, but not for the reasons you think. Around the 70s the establishment noticed oil was finite. Ian Welsh argues that one of the main goals of economic policy since then in the US has been to prevent real incomes from rising, because the population would consume more oil if wages grew.

You can' invest in that sort of major projects anymore because the energy is not there anymore. The current low prices are crashing investment in production and soon there is not enough energy to invest into oil production. Which means the end of the industrial age. This means the population must collapse to pre-industrial levels or lower.

Blossom, you speak/read Russian? That is so cool! We should invite gbolduev and the rest of the good communists here to have a Peat-party with coconut-oil + vodka shots.
No, I used Google translator! I'll join the Peat coconut oil and vodka shots party though if no one minds that I'm 100% American.:salute

Nothing wrong with American:)
Btw, I think the coconut-oil + vodka shots are a good idea for any party. The saturated fat in coconut oil is miscible rather well with alcohol. Also, it not only reverses cirrhosis from alcohol but keeps it from happening even if the alcohol abuse continues indefinitely. That study I posted long time ago on reversing cirrhosis was hilarious to read. The rats were thrilled to keep drinking (duh) and eating saturated fat and were perfectly healthy "alcoholic" rats. Due to the high blood alcohol concentrations they were also immune to infections as most parasites do not do well in alcoholic blood. I can almost see a banner in Russia saying "Got vodka? Don't forget your grease."
I wish Nicholas Cage knew about that in "Leaving Las Vegas". But then it would not have been such a good movie I guess.

I always assumed that the Soviets would call us out if the landing was hoaxed. No doubt they monitored the whole thing. Or maybe they were in cahoots with us all along! :bored:

Well the other more believable claim (in my opinion) is that the Soviets had a couple failed manned lunar missions. The USG knew and never said anything. So maybe there are a couple capsules containing rotten Russians still making long orbits around the sun.

Not rotten, as that process does not do well in space:): Either mummified or freakishly well-preserved and looking simply asleep. Also, frozen at whatever age they died at forever.

such a large hoax could be kept secret for so long. People have big mouths lol.

This argument always strikes me as ridiculous, especially after some professional experiences. Large groups of motivated and screened people can keep big secrets, sorry. Happens all the time. The people keeping these secrets are not random idiots off bar-stools or gossip columnists.

That said, the moon landing hoax stuff is very silly.

I wish there had been a big international event back in 2007 to commemorate the 50th of the Sputnik-1 launch. What an amazing and inspiring chapter of human history.

How much coconut oil do you think it would take to reverse Non alcoholic fatty liver? Or any fibrosis Thanks!
