Nicotine has some benefits but it's detriments include raising cortisol and constricting arterial bloodflow. Whether or not these effects are due to the Nicotine itself, or to the inhalation of smoke from cigarettes, is up for debate. Both of these effects are well understood to contribute to hairloss.
Nicotine also inhibits the enzyme that deactivates DHT. Whether or not DHT contributes to hairloss is debated on this forum, but it is worth a mention.
