Rinse & rePeat:
“If a person has been limiting PUFA’s for say 4 years, but they have gotten fat on healthy saturated fats, are those stored fats in the body unhealthy when released into the bloodstream from dieting or a survival situation?”

RAY PEAT:
“The PUFA are preferentially stored rather than oxidized, so only an extreme diet can reduce their storage.”

Rinse & rePeat:
“So would a lean muscular person or a PUFA depleted fat person do better in a survival/starvation situation?”

RAY PEAT:
“Depleted animals are extremely stress resistant.”

Between this RP e-mail response (above) and this attached screenshot from one of his articles, I am thinking that stocking up on Progest-E is probably a good idea. He has mentioned it being more cost effective, needing to use less of it, by applying on the gums or lips, rather than in other parts of the body, so a couple bottles should last a long time.

This Frontier brand is a great find! It is organic and has no preservatives. I bought these 3 of their soup kits from the grocery store because the add-in ingredients are ones that can be shelf stable. I bought the big pack of vegetables on Amazon to make my emergency lizard soup :)

Why Calcium Hypochlorite is So Much Cooler Than Bleach

Bleach’s active ingredient is sodium hypochlorite. Calcium hypochlorite basically does the same things, but it has some amazing advantages over bleach.

It’s Way Cheaper
The powdered form of calcium hypochlorite is far more cost effective than bleach. One-fourth teaspoon of powder will treat 55 gallons of water.

Its Shelf Life is Way Longer

The shelf life of calcium hypochlorite powder is 10 years. The shelf life of bleach is about one year from production under ideal storage conditions. It weakens quickly over time.

But There’s a Slight Learning Curve
You will need to make a 5% chlorine stock solution with the powder to disinfect water with it. Find instructions for that.

Get Over the Curve, and Enjoy the Rewards
Once you make a bottle of solution, you can pretend that it’s normal bleach. Just follow the CDC and Clorox recommendations for treating water above and use the same quantities you would use for bleach.

Make the solution in small batches as needed because it will degrade like bleach solution.

I stored distilled water, too. Then, during a power outage, I went to drink some, and it tasted super plastic-y. I threw the rest out...
I think you can use charcoal filter to remove BPA. I have the same concern also from stored plastic bottled water.

Do water filters remove BPA?

Many popular water filters that are on the market today remove BPA from tap water using activated carbon filtration. This is a relatively inexpensive method to limit exposure to a handful of chemicals. But keep in mind this filtration method is not used in the production of bottled waters or for the public water supply.

If you’re comparing products while shopping for a new water filter pitcher for your home, you should find out what specifically it filters. While some home use water filters do not remove BPA, but they remove chlorine, which reacts with BPA and contributes to some adverse health impacts. Aquagear water filters undergo rigorous independent testing by a third party lab. We continually test our products to ensure that they remove new and emerging contaminants.

How do carbon water filters remove BPA?

The key to activated carbon water filtration is carbon’s massive surface area and high porosity. A single gram of carbon has a surface area that is bigger than 5400 square feet, making it incredibly porous on a microscopic level.

To put it in simple terms, when water passes through a filter loaded with grains of carbon or carbon in block form, contaminants will get trapped inside the pore structure of the carbon, boosting the purity of the water. This process, known as adsorption, is also at play when companies use carbon filtering for air purification, gold purification, or even in some common household products like toothpaste.

I made one of the Frontier dry soup mixes for dinner tonight, the broccoli cheddar one. It was easy and pretty good! I bought a dried cream to use in it for my emergency food collection and I think I am gonna order some of that Hickory Farms shelf stable cheddar cheese, that comes in those gift baskets with the summery sausage, mustard and crackers, for emergency cheese for this soup, but tonight I used grass fed cheddar. Tonight I used my homemade chicken bone broth instead of the emergency stuff from a box. I think I will stck up in more of this one!

Don’t forget to stick up on our best survival items, coffee, sugar and milk/cream!…

“Researchers found that those participants who drank any amount of unsweetened coffee were between 16% and 21% less likely to die than people who did not consume any coffee. Based on a fairly substantial sample size, the findings show that drinking even the occasional cup of joe reduced your odds of death by up to one-fifth. Coffee consumption in this group ranged from less than a cup per day to greater than four. In every case, they had lower mortality than non-coffee drinkers, when adjusting for other lifestyle and hazard factors.

This is where the study results get a little counterintuitive. The common wisdom is that unsweetened drinks are healthier than sweetened drinks. Thus, the correlation with black coffee and mortality should be strongest. Yet, the study found that those who drank between 1.5 and 3.5 cups of coffee, sweetened with sugar, were between 29% and 31% less likely to die over the study period. We have to imagine the half cups found at both ends of this range were a result of folks forgetting about their coffee and letting it grow cold. It happens.”

The one thing I would find difficult for me to be without l, if I had no electricity l, would be my music. I keep my happy jazz going 24/7. So I bought a CD player that has a USB charge cord and a portable solar powered USB charger.

Here is something to grab for your emergency supplies, arrowroot powder! I have used it before as an egg substitute. Just mix 1 tablespoon of arrowroot powder with 1/4 cup of water and 1 Tablespoon of oil.

Someone gave me this salt cooking slab a couple of years ago and I am glad I hung on to it. What I like about it for survival purposes is that you don’t use water to clean it. The salt kills any bacteria, like salt curing meat. It seasons those little lizards and rodents without added salt :D

In survival situations, my biggest worry besides water is rodents and bugs, especially living outdoors, for whatever reason. I HAD a ground squirrel, lizard and ant issue, but it is like Stephen King’s “Langoliersin my back yard now. I rid myself of them by getting cayenne pepper and Frank’s Red Hot Sauce from the 99 cent store, and using human urine. It is giving me a chuckle watching the ground squirrels play in my neighbors tree now. I saw a couple in the wide open field, at my opposite fence, where the hawks and owls hunt. They won’t last long there. What a bundle of cash I saved on exterminating them all!

Be sure to have your natural antibiotics on hand for internal and external emergencies! Here are a couple of the brands I am using, which have high UMF numbers.…

“The review of selected published work provides a conclusive information that the potential importance of honey for medicinal purposes cannot be underestimated. The research data has confirmed that Manuka honey's antibacterial activity, in comparison to non-Manuka honey, is due to a higher phenolic and methylglyoxal content. Manuka honey can be safely used as an alternative natural antibiotic, which exerts a stimulating effect on macrophages to release mediators needed for tissue healing and reducing microbial infections. Unique Manuka Factor (UMF), which depends on methylglyoxal content is also important for honey's antibacterial activity. Other active components include hydrogen peroxide, acidic pH level, hyper-osmolality effect and bee defensin-1 etc. Finally, the conclusion is that honey is a natural and safe antibiotic, since no literature published has reported bacterial resistance for honey, which is attributed to the complexity of honey components working solely or in a synergistic manner with other components.

“Therefore, based on above conclusion it is an interesting aspect for further research that the synergistic combination of Manuka honey of different UMF values with commercial antibiotics could be studied to establish an alternative approach for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant microorganisms.”

“Honey protects the body against damage caused by bacteria. Some honeys also boost production of special cells that can repair tissue damaged by infection. Manuka honey has an anti-inflammatory action that can help easepain and inflammation.”

“Some kinds may be 100 times more potent than others.

Components of Manuka Honey

Hydrogen peroxide gives most honey its antibiotic quality. But some types, including Manuka honey, also have unique antibacterial qualities.

One of the major antibacterial components of Manuka honey is a compound called methylglyoxal (MGO). MGO comes from the conversion of another compound in Manuka honey known as dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a high concentration of which is found in the nectar of Manuka flowers.”

“The higher the concentration of MGO, the stronger the antibacterial effect.

Honey producers have a scale for rating the potency of Manuka honey. The rating is called UMFTM, which stands for Unique Manuka Factor.

The UMFTM rating reflects the concentration of 3 signature compounds found in genuine Manuka honey, MGO, DHA and leptosperin. To be considered potent enough to be therapeutic, Manuka honey needs a minimum rating of UMF™ 10+.”
