Hello!
My question:
Is there anywhere I can go to get treatment and monitored by people who actually understand how the body works similar to Ray (a well seasoned biochemist). I often feel like the many traditional MDs I've come across don't know specifics and specialists only know narrowly within their field. I've worked with different NDs, Functional Meds, Homeopaths, mental health approaches etc., and hasn't served me. My ND biochemist is awesome but he doesn't have a treatment centre or anything.
I can't read and comprehend the complexity of biochemistry to find my context within Ray Peat. The simple eat this do that, does not go well... it goes really really bad.
I've been not well since birth, worse as a teen and very sick from 17 on and a steep decline here at 35. I was diagnosed with CFS that offers no treatments and dismissed by our healthcare.
Somehow my blood work flies under the radar of major concern but a biochemist I've worked with says I'm low (not according to Canadian ranges though) in all hormones. But nothing screams out as being off in typical testing. Taking low doses of B vitamins in the correct genetic forms for me still sends my heart on a pounding painful ride, keeping me up all night. I did this for a year with various attempts at alternating forms and doses. It seems as though what I take in doesn't get used so my tests come out fine (or too high with B12 for example) while you can physically see the deficiencies. I think I've aged 10yrs in 1. After a year of working with him, his guess is I have a mitochondrial disease of sort, similar to Addisons (but not). I don't produce ATP well and it stutters enough for me to survive... this is all assumptions based on what I've been through.
All this to say, I'm near the end of my rope, a complete mess physically falling apart. I tried Ray Peat's suggestions 3-4 years ago and it was an epic intestinal fail. However, I find his perspectives inviting. My health care system said, we can't fix you but lets try to improve your quality of life with Metformin and LDN pain killers. I didn't partake.
Any suggestions?
