Hello!

My question:

Is there anywhere I can go to get treatment and monitored by people who actually understand how the body works similar to Ray (a well seasoned biochemist). I often feel like the many traditional MDs I've come across don't know specifics and specialists only know narrowly within their field. I've worked with different NDs, Functional Meds, Homeopaths, mental health approaches etc., and hasn't served me. My ND biochemist is awesome but he doesn't have a treatment centre or anything.

I can't read and comprehend the complexity of biochemistry to find my context within Ray Peat. The simple eat this do that, does not go well... it goes really really bad.

I've been not well since birth, worse as a teen and very sick from 17 on and a steep decline here at 35. I was diagnosed with CFS that offers no treatments and dismissed by our healthcare.

Somehow my blood work flies under the radar of major concern but a biochemist I've worked with says I'm low (not according to Canadian ranges though) in all hormones. But nothing screams out as being off in typical testing. Taking low doses of B vitamins in the correct genetic forms for me still sends my heart on a pounding painful ride, keeping me up all night. I did this for a year with various attempts at alternating forms and doses. It seems as though what I take in doesn't get used so my tests come out fine (or too high with B12 for example) while you can physically see the deficiencies. I think I've aged 10yrs in 1. After a year of working with him, his guess is I have a mitochondrial disease of sort, similar to Addisons (but not). I don't produce ATP well and it stutters enough for me to survive... this is all assumptions based on what I've been through.

All this to say, I'm near the end of my rope, a complete mess physically falling apart. I tried Ray Peat's suggestions 3-4 years ago and it was an epic intestinal fail. However, I find his perspectives inviting. My health care system said, we can't fix you but lets try to improve your quality of life with Metformin and LDN pain killers. I didn't partake.

Any suggestions?

From what you describe it definitely sounds like a hormonal issue which when hormones are the issue, it's usually lack of fat in the diet that is the issue. I say usually, because unless there is some underlying cause that's triggering the chain reaction. For instance, if you have low stomach acid, it could cause cfs simply by not absorbing the nutrients you're getting from the food. Then again, there is usually a clear indicator with this if you test low in B12 (without any supplements). This could happen if too much medication is taken (good call on not partaking), the use of antacids, or too much alcohol. All can damage the parietial cells where stomach acid is produced, and intrinsic factor which is used for B12.

What has your diet typically been in the past?

The only advise I can offer is up the saturated fat in the diet; more animal fat if you havn't already. Keep in mind, this isn't an overnight fix; in some cases it can take months or a year to fix cfs.

Thanks for the reply!

I am underweight but it's muscle loss, collagen loss everywhere and now I have a little belly pouch and some fat on hips. The rest is bomes ans gross.
Currently I'm grain free, similar to AIP but no coconut as I'm allergic (oil ok). No fish as I react, no tropical fruit (histamine), since introduction to food, I've been severely allergic to dairy. I eat high fat, lots of dates, a large bag of avacado potato chips every two days, cashew milks, turkey, pork, beef and chicken (only once a week). All organic grass fed free range...i don't eat a lot of greens, asparagus, peas, few beans, and sometimes broccoli but pretty sick of it. I have to be careful with methyls. I do give in to cocoa powder and it's ok but not chocolate bars as I get so hyper my adrenals suffer a week or more after.

My diet growing up was poor, 80's child crap. By 16 I was largely high fat low carbs a few years on and a few years of experimenting or binge moments for sugar. For the most part, I ate paleo. As a toddler, my mom caught me eating handfuls of sugar out of the bag. We didn't have candy or junk in the house except for the marshmellows I apparently hid under my bed or the chocolate bars at head level I stole from the gas station (I didn't understand money at that age). My whole life I've had anxiety around needing sugar. My body is desperate for the energy. We assumed it was candida as eating that sugar causes an imbalance but it's more of the lack of energy production causing the need with the result of candidiasis from an acidic body, failing to do all it needs to. I think.
I was ahead of the trends in the 90's, which only helps in me knowing what it did for me. When I went on birth control, maintained a healthy weight and handled sugar better... but I still had energy issues and skin breakouts as I tested my limits. Then I got mono, which was misdiagnosed as depression and infection- they medicated me for 1.5 yrs until they realized it was mono. It's been down hill from there as I denied my health, pushed myself to work and exercise beyond what I physically and mentally could. Adrenaline was the only way I functioned- still is

I would post your lab work here if I were you.

Have you ever tried living in a tropical climate for a month? I'd try that next ;)

have you considered coconut oil chips instead? Nuts in general aren't that great.
Personally, I stick to beef.

You may want to try an elimination diet for those vegetables.

You may want to get off that, its probably causing your muscle loss. Seriously, you may benefit from a higher carb diet. Rice is widely used around here and may be alright. Potatoes are great too. You need good sources of starch and sugar.

How much PUFA do you get? I would lower fat, and go higher on carbs. Have you tried fresh sweet orange juice? If you dont react well, I would for potatoes.

I know the feeling, that only adrenalin can give you energy, but nothing will get better as long as you use adrenalin for energy.

I would consider cypro, because that stuff seems really powerfull healing longn term damage, and put you out of stress.
