I'm really looking for help with some ideas to substitute for potatoes. It is a very family friendly meal for us as we have it in many varieties, such as French fries, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, etc. The problem is, it is very filling and hard to fill the void. Also, with 2 younger kids, it is something they like a lot.

Ketchp is another thing that I am having a hard time substituting. No one wants to have a bland hamburger, or a bland steak with no sauce. Recommendations?

I use the the white fleshed sweet potatoes, they have 50% less starch, and are very similar to a regular potato. I just made scalloped potatoes with them the other day, and oh man were the so much better than regular ones. I don’t buy the orange fleshed ones because they are too sweet and we know about the beta carotene in those. I have eaten sweet potatoes 3 times in the last week. They digest with ease and never make me feel full. I like them so much that I am growing the purple and white varieties.

What is wrong with an organic ketchup? I eat it all the time.

You’ll never be President with that spelling in the headline. Yes I know it’s correct. That’s the joke.

Because of high water content potatoes are more filling but less calories.
200 years ago when the Irish diet was highly dependent on potatoes they were the healthiest population in Europe.

What's the problem with potatoes? If you tolerate it well, eat them. AFAIR Peat recommends to boil them for at least one hour. Also choose less starch varietes - there are A,B,C types of potato, A is the less starchy whilst C is starch variety.
Do your own ketchup with tomatoes, vinegar and sugar. It's also nothing bad. Best would be home grown tomatoes if you have some place outside.

I eat the red and Yukon gold potatoes, which are higher in sugar and lower in starch, I don’t see anything wrong with the organic ketchup I use, do you?

I don't know man, maybe white rice with ground beef or eggs with oranges or melons.

High solanine potatoes are rare to find, just peel them and throw them whole in water covered for one hour (cooked to death), then ditch the water and eat the potatoes, if one tastes bitter than throw it, that's the solanine.

I eat them twice a week, sometimes i go months without them, dates and bananas are the only substitute for me, i eat high amounts of dates and it's very filling more than any other fruit.

I make some of those rice and meat dishes, not for awhile though, but I think I will!

I boil my potatoes and then fry them in beef tallow, like McDonald’s did, which made them famous, now not so much. These fries are good and just as healthy as boiled and mashed potatoes, and still amazing eating them cold, hours later. Buy the potatoes organic and I think it makes for a healthy meal for the kids. Restaurant French fries are the worst!

Is there any harm in frying lean fries with airfryers?
It seems to have the same ill effects of frying, baking or barbecuing foods on high heat…

“Air-frying equipment is not known to cause cancer, but the process of air frying does result in the formation of certain compounds, like acrylamide, that are linked to cancer development. Acrylamide is classified as a probable human carcinogen. Acrylamide is formed when foods are heated to temperatures above 120 degrees Celsius (120°C) or 250 degrees Fahrenheit (250°F). During the heating process, a series of chemical reactions (called the “Maillard reaction”) involving sugars and amino acids contained in food results in the formation of acrylamide. Foods that are high in carbohydrates, such as potato chips, French fries, and baked goods contain the highest levels of acrylamide, but fish, meat, and vegetables produce smaller amounts of acrylamide when cooked.”
