IIRC from the article, emodin helps reduce intestinal inflammation, thereby increasing the gut lumen. So if inflammation and constriction were contributing to constipation, this can help remove/reduce such bottle necks. It may also support metabolism, so that normal peristalsis operates better, without doing it with increased stress hormones like serotonin.mlc2010 said:https://raypeatforum.com/forums/posts/95806/tara said:Not sure what a stimulant laxative means exactly, but the emodin in cascara sagrada apparently does not behave like the serotonin-raising laxatives.

a stimulant laxative if I can explain it properly, is when body gets used to a laxative and needs it to work? Ie ones that draw water into colon aren't as bad as ones that stimulate the bowel?
