capnograph - co2 measurement medical device

haidut recommends one as the most effective way to measure metabolic rate. i am going to buy one. does anyone know of one that would be recommended? some look like they are pushing 1 grand or 2 grand. i would like to purchase a cheap one, but obviously one that will work well. anyone have any info on them? i don't see too much on the forum on them.
