Calcium And Albumin

Can someone explain to me how calcium is related to albumin? In one article Peat says Preeclampsia can be cured by adequate salt, protein, calories and calcium.

What is calciums role here?

When energy fails: Edema, heart failure, hypertension, sarcopenia, etc.

Not sure if this helps any, but I read where Chris Masterjohn said "alkalosis drives calcium into albumin and creates a deficiency of active (ionized) calcium."
