Because Covid-19 presents unique challenges to the medical system. The flu has a lower R0 (spreadability), doesn’t cause as widespread infection in the lungs as Covid-19, and does not produce the overwhelming numbers that go on to require ICU and intubation and respiration. Flu also doesn’t kill the medical staff treating the patients the way Covid-19 does. They alone take a generation to replace.
No they don't...each year there's a graduating class of medical students and residents.
Class of 2018, class of 2019, class of 2020, etc. etc.
