Ashwagandha has always worked great for me as far as fixing hypothyroid symptoms, lowering cortisol and increasing androgens. makes me very calm and a beast in the gym.
Sadly though, it also makes me unpredictably irritable and angry.
im going to research any ways i could possibly mitigate the harmful serotonin agonizing effects of ashwagandha, seeing as it works way better for my thyroid than taking actual thyroid.
i was hoping some people on here would chime in with any helpful information, so that i dont have to possibly reinvent any wheels.

Have you considered that it’s cholinergic properties might be responsible for the irritability/anger? I get the same effects from anything that increases acetylcholine. It’s like your brain is in a vice and everything irritates you.

possibly, from other threads ive read about ashwa they always say its seerotonergic properties are responsible, i honestly didnt know it was cholinergic as well

It did this too me as well after just a day or two, and the only thing that I could determine was the acetylcholinesterase inhibition that prevents the breakdown of acetylcholine. Too much coffee can do this because of the same mechanism. Too much eggs or choline used to do this to me, but eggs don’t bother me anymore. Fish Oil would create bad anxiety and depression and agitation due to the same thing, but eating real omega three fish doesn’t bother me.

any clue how to increase cholinesterase or block the inhibition?

Lower choline intake, take Doxylamine (a muscarinic choline receptor blocker). Eat nightshade vegetables like eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes. Just a guess though. Check out men elite website on how to lower acetylcholine

i read that solanine from nightshades inhibits breakdown od ach and has a half life of 6-8 hours, so they should be avoided.

Yes, it was confusing, but hyosamine is another alkaloid found in nightshades and has anti cholinergic properties similar to Atropine. From what I gather, some block choline at the neuron, and others prevent the breakdown. Perhaps it wasn’t the best suggestion but it isn’t always black and white with nature.

Ashwagandha made me severely andhedonic (maybe also due to pmo addiction, which i stopped), i took it last year to lower my cortisol, it did help with that, but it caused anhedonia and even now to this day, i still suffer from the side effects, everything feels blank. I took aspirin and it did help a bit, so i'm taking that now

It can change 5HT1A, 5HT2A receptors. Do you have post-orgasmic illness syndrome symptoms r/POIS ?

Yes I do, after I ejaculate, within minutes my body would react physically, like my muscles twitching and my density going down a bit, I also feel my bones become less dense and whenever I go to the gym post ejaculate, my energy crashes, and I abruptly end my gym session because I don't have energy to move forward

You think this has some kind of connection to my prior pmo addiction? And do you know a way to restore your serotonin receptors back to normal?

That is no porn addiction, the nofap/semen retention freaks do not know that there is post-orgasmic illness syndrome caused by autoimmune/mast cell/allergy/immune/inflammatory reaction post-orgasm/ejaculation (a guy cured it with a mast cell medicine, another one with a ME/CFS medicine, others with antibiotics, some with diet, one with autoimmune medicine stack) so they create crazy pseudo-ideas of why they feel bad by orgasm/ejaculation and better on abstinence like semen being created by bone marrow or that a drop of semen is created by 20ml of blood or something (anybody with simple maths capability should see how out of touch with reality it is)

Due to many people who notice those symptoms post-O/ejac not knowing POIS is a thing those deranged freaks then pull them into their circles and it often leads to other fringe mgtow/redpill/incel/radical christian/fascist types of ideas all because of a 100% biological/physical curable disorder which has nothing to do with God punishing one for sexuality or magical energies or oujas or some other insanity created by POISers in an ancient era when they didn't know not everyone has those symptoms and that it isn't normal

E.g. Lewis Dio Victorian-era book on onanism sides match 100% post-orgasmic illness syndrome symptoms so people had it centuries ago but had no technology to discover they have elevated mast cell markers/inflammation/cortisol (a common theme in some POISers) to then realize orgasm/ejaculation triggers an autoimmune/allergy/inflammatory reaction

Well, you can't deny the fact the dopamine receptors get tanked when you masturbate to porn, my brain is so numb, I don't feel happy even playing games, it just is blank. I've dealt with this ***t for a year now and God knows how I managed to go that long without going insane, I just want to feel normal again

Already am doing nofap, but I'm still suffering from anhedonia, I truly suspect the ashwagandha caused this, because even when I take dopaminergic substances like caffeine, I don't feel better

i took ashwagandha as ksm-66 in the doses of around 800 mg for a year straight and it's been over 2 years now and i'm still anhedonic and my sensation of fear is severly blunted. i barely feel fear so to speak. everything feels kinda blank so i advise against taking this herb in particular. i also advise against taking tribulus terrestris as it's mao-i and severely exacerbated the serotonergic effects of ash. on the good side i'm no longer anxious in conversations. i can say the most stupid ***t, that would make a queen's guard cringe, with a straight face

oh and it also gave me hyperthyroidism symptoms - AVOID.

Damn man, we're both on the same boat then. I wish I knew about aspirin and not ksm 66, some idiot recommended me ksm66 to help my adrenals and lower cortisol
