I read something maybe a year ago about the robust health of Victorians. It suggested that they had relatively hard physical lives and ate enough to meet those demands. Average caloric intake was something close to 4K if I recall correctly. So they ate nutrient dense things, yes but they also ate enough to be nourished.. Another thing some are lacking in this modern age. I think I may have found the link on Chris Kresser's site. I'll repost here if I find it again.
