"Mental stress factors
(a) Prolonged fear or anger, overcrowding, imprisonment of man, caging of animals, are among the most stressful mental stimuli.
(b) The most devastating stress is caused in animals by restriction of movement, and even such simple restriction in rats as binding up the limbs so as to immobilise them completely for only one or two hours causes acute stress. In such cases the adrenal steroids become depleted and there is bleeding into the stomach. This is a type of shock reaction."

Yes,and not only "mental" but physiological stress factors!
In Somatic Experiencing, we look to complete movements that could not be done, or were stopped, when facing something too strong, or when you had to time. This stays as a stress in the body.
The good news is that you can finish the movement even years after, and it discharges the stress, and you get back the energy that was stuck in an endless quest for acheivement.

You can also understand how devastating can some surgery be, especially for children, and especially when they were imobilised by forcé. Of course for their good and be able to attend them, but it is devastating.

Acute stress causing adrenal steroid depletion(sounds like so called adrenal fatigue) but I thought adrenal fatigue on its own doesn't exist except in case of tumors
