Necessary for what?

If E is membrane bound,Radicals have 1000 times the affinity for E than for the Lipid, getting E radical in the process, which can get recycled nicely, which abrogates the furthering of excess Lipid-oxygenation,by acting as a decoy.

What would be subjective symptoms of excess lipid peroxidation?

wont that deplete gamma?

This is a debated topic,I believe the Tissue distribution and management shows meaningful and wanted discrimination against Gamma and the other forms.Had a study were the conductors fed mice comparable Dosages of different tocopherols simultaneously, harvesting tissues like brain, heart skin after sacrifice of the little Health-martyrs.Brain was exclusively Alpha dominant, with rates of presence like 99.8% of all Tocopherols were in the Alpha form, other organs all above 97% Alpha dominance.
It makes sense, because the wildliving Animals dont eat Gamma-Grains,but Alpha dominant leaves and grasses.

It would be so general, subjective symptoms would be the entirety of prematurely wasted membranes and the increasing chances of catastrophic cellular failure,if it cant re-build up membranes up to specification in time.It would be the general feeling of aging too fast probably, however that feels tho..In the Brain,E deficiency would likely feel like Major Depression or other Brain Disorders like Ataxia. In Models and in Epidemiology,E intake is associated with nice delay and reduction of severity of Dementia-type Brain disorder, further boosted if combined with C.Brain saturation takes a long time though, with still increasing amount over years of intake.Lowest repletion dosage would the theorized upper absorption lvl of 150mg,postulated by disciples of Margaret G. Traber, the Overlord of E-Research.I would go for 3000mg for a couple of months with D-alpha-acetate or free alcohol form, and then reduce to 200-400mg a day for years.

Effect of L-Carnitine in Patients With Liver Cirrhosis on Energy Metabolism Using Indirect Calorimetry: A Pilot Study

"After 4 weeks of L-carnitine treatment, for all cases, the mean substrate oxidation rates of carbohydrate (%C) increased from 37.6% to 48.2%, the mean substrate oxidation rates of fat (%F) decreased from 40.2% to 31.9% and the mean substrate oxidation rates of protein (%P) decreased from 22.2% to 19.9%."
That seems to corroborate that short-term, carnitine can upregulate PDH.
