Aspiring And GI Disturbance

There are so many good reasons to take aspirin, I've been reading all about it.

Unfortunately, I have inflammatory bowel disesase (IBD) and NSAIDs like aspirin are supposedly a no no because I guess they corrode the GI lining and cause inflammatory events? To be honest I haven't found a good research rationale behind this avoidance, but every GI doctor I've ever had has told me to avoid aspirin. Since I've never taken it in my life, I don't know one way or the other.

Does anyone here have any handy research articles talking about the GI connection to aspirin and why it's harmful for some?

After reading these forums, I'm also wondering if it's the type of aspirin that matters... like coated/slow release, or instant; pill or powder; excipients added or pure salicylic acid.
