Thanks to the large-brained Flávio:
The locally administreated taurine significantly increased wound tensile strength by decreasing the MDA and histamine levels and prevented the degranulation of the mast cells. These observations suggest that taurine may be useful on wound healing.

And a second study with similar results from a gel form (maybe a product is in development?):
It was found that locally administered TAU-GEL form significantly increased wound tensile strength by decreasing the MDA and increasing HPX levels. These results were supported by histological findings. All observations suggest that taurine gel may be effective in wound healing.

Thanks for the findings!

This reference suggests that skin lesions from the parasite infection Leishmaniasis have improved healing with taurine either topical or systemic (injected). (Taurine did not reduce the number of parasites from the infection itself.)

There are, notably, two recent studies suggesting taurine may help gingival wound healing. (The first has different authors but comes from the same university center as the first article mentioned in the original post).

"RESULTS: Complete new epithelial formation was observed in 1% taurine-treated gingivectomy specimens, whereas incomplete regeneration of the epithelium was observed in control gingivectomy specimens (P <0.05). The length of the newly formed epithelium showed a negative correlation with inflammation in the taurine group (P = -0.712; P <0.05)."

This study used oral Taurine (only 500 mg once per day) after gum surgery, in a cross-over trial:

"...taurine seems to improve the antioxidant status of chronic periodontitis patients by influencing the levels of lipid peroxidation products (TBARS) and the antioxidant enzymes GPX and GSH. The apparent improvement observed in the clinical parameters (namely probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level) following administration of taurine also reflects the same."

I have receding gums. Wondering if they would benefit from a mouthwash of taurine powder diluted in water... or maybe even put the taurine solution in the waterpik...
