Does gelatin need to be dissolved for it to become useful?

i think it congeals badly unless it's dissolved. Softened in cold water and then dissolved in hot.

Does this means it can be eaten, even though it takes longer to digest? Is undissolved powdered gelatin better than no gelatin?

Undissolved gelatin might give indigestion. I wouldn't try it myself.
