[Influence of manganese on the level of glycogen and its fractions in organism tissues]. - Abstract - Europe PMC

Abstract
Changes in the level of total glycogen and its fractions in the organism tissues were studied under conditions of injecting different doses of manganese into intact rabbits. It is established that the trace element doses of 0.6 and 3 mg per 1 kg of the weight cause a significant increase in the total glycogen quantity in the liver, mainly due to its free and protein-bound forms. Higher doses of manganese (6 mg/kg) produce an opposite effect. In the cerebral tissues the level increase of total glycogen and in most cases of its fractions occurs under the influence of the trace element in doses of 0.1-6 mg/kg. In the myocardium tissue manganese did not cause any significant changes in the glycogen level. It is supposed that manganese participates in the processes of glycogene metabolism in the organism.

Mussels, yes perfect food source but how much of it you can eat to reach 10 mg a day?everyday!

You right but that is exception,in general ray never talked about manganese.you can easily be low on manganese ,drinking milk and oj.mussels are not a principal in his diet.

And one thing we missed about that study is that they injected mqngqnese!!! Not mixed into their feed!

Manganese absorption rate in humans is 1-3 percent.

Good points. Best bet is probably just to improve thyroid function then, as we and Mittir talked about in the other thread. Which goes back to improved thyroid improving glycogen stores. Perhaps one of the methods of improved thyroid, although minor, may be through the increase of minerals such as manganese, similar to the way it does with magnesium.

I believe manganese intake need to be checked to be in required limit, especially in high carb diet.

A good thyroid function can't do much for it if the diet be deficient n manganese.
