Broadly matches my experience. I need to exert an autocratic level of control over social media, both what I see and what I post, for it to be enjoyable. The closer to letter-writing the better.

For sure. The moment you get sucked into something, it's all over haha.

As most of these relate back to dopamine, would video games and/or excessive entertainment (music, netflix etc.) also have the same effects? The only difference I see between social media and other entertainment is that social media is mostly based on negative news.

Social media is a tool that has turned out to be not so different from porn. What promised to be a means for enhanced communication and informatione exchange is really nothing more than a dopamine rush. I think, like porn, social media can mess with dopamine sensitivity in a negative way.

It's why so many people are hooked on it. And, perhaps, electronics in general. When I'm out in public, restaurants or stores, a vast majority of people aren't even paying attention to what's going on around them. Many are just looking down at their phones 70% of the time.

On a different note, it's not secure either. Government and law enforcement agencies are easily granted access to your profiles even if they're "private."
