They mention it a couple of times in the video that carbohydrates are used to fuel the (obscene amounts of) endurance activity.
Magnus is/was an elite rock climbing athlete and when his heart rate is 180, Kristian's is around 130... and when Magnus is tapping out due to lactic acid buildup, Kristian's lactate measurement is less than half of Magnus'.
