This really helped me reframe the problems in my life, and has helped me see things in a more positive light.[Karen] Problems, for humans, can be an opportunity to grow in awareness and become more whole, but our problems in the age of commercialism are regarded as either something needing a quick fix, something we should hide, or not a problem at all even re-framed by doctors as “normal”. What role do problems play in our lives?
[Ray] There’s one world in common for those who are awake, and every sleeper has his own private world. A problem can be part of the process of waking up, seeing errors that had been created by misunderstanding or inattention, seeing solutions that had been hidden. Seeing things objectively, problems energize and attract. Natural things are communicating their nature, and natural perception is in dialog with them, with a Heraclitean sense of development, but cultural structures that are codified for privilege have to be problematized consciously. Paolo Freire’s critical pedagogy taught problematization.
