Not at all an encouragement to do so, I was wondering if ingesting it might be beneficial in trying to repair damaged brain neurons? it contains sterols, therefore precursors of cholesterol.

In animals lanolin is used to induce experimental atherosclerosis, although they probably use excessively high doses. In small amounts it's probably safe, since it's being used as nipple cream for breastfeeding moms. But I think pregnenolone and progesterone would be a better choice to repair the brain.

Can topical application induce this?

On the steroid side:
Progesterone, testosterone, DHT, aldosterone (the latter being a thyroid mimic as posted elsewhere on the forum by Haidt). Alldosterone can be taken orally/topically or made in the body from testosterone. In the 1960’s it was used as an ingredient in the pre statin hyperlipidemia drug Android. So, there are safety studies buried deep in the FDAs archives somewhere (it’s hard to find much info on and I’ve looked).

Thyroid hormones:
T4/T3

Metabolic:
Mildrinate (used in cycles), B6, B1 (high dose oral and possibly needs to be IV or IM)

Psychedelic
Psilocybin (cyclic micro or low periodic low doses, the evidence for neuroplasticity is stronger on low or mid range doses than it is for micro dosing)

Actoprotector:
Bromantane, bemitil (the latter seeing use after mine explosion trauma in Russia)

Antioxidant:
Pyridoxine (form of B6), emoxypine (modified B6, lots of research out of Russia), pyritinol (an old American drug sort of a double B6 with a disulfide bridge).

Other:
I have seen evidence for breathing Co2 in sessions; but, haven’t dug down into any of the evidence. You will probably encounter some evidence for this using “TBI Co2” in your search terms - possibly also “bag breathing”

Improved blood flow:
Asprin, did I mention asprin?
PDE5 inhibitors sildenafil sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), vardenafil (Levitra), and avanafil (Stendra) these are possibly anti peat on nitrous oxide grounds; though, I’ve read evidence for offlabel use to improve brain and kidney function

Consider also iodine
