Abdominal (self) massage if done properly is miraculous and can quickly cure mysterious and seemingly complicated syndromes.
When the abdominal nerves are impaired due to any reason (after food poisoning, infection, improper posture, overeating etc) it results in congestion of the abdominal veins. This venous congestion interferes with the proper supply of arterial blood. The tissues and organs become immersed in stagnant blood and experience a state akin to asphyxia. Endotoxin and byproducts of digestion normally eliminated through unobstructed circulation, poison and cause dysfunction of multiple organ systems. Serotonin accumulates excessively because it is not taken to the lungs to be detoxified. This explains the frequent occurrence of depression, anxiety, and nervous symptoms in almost all GI disorders. The vital function of all organs is weakened.
The abdominal muscles are probably the most important muscles to train, and later in life the leg muscles are important because a fall can kill you if you are old, and fractures won't heal easily.
But training the abdominal muscles is important because through reflexes it maintains the tonicity of the abdominal veins which send the blood to the right atrium, right ventricle and then to the lungs. The erect posture places us at a disadvantage compared to other mammals, because of gravity.
