High estrogen increases stress
pt 1 is stress , scroll to other half of post for cyst stuff

high estrogen interferes with brain/fear inhibition, especially in females
(^ This is why people with high estrogen are easily stressed especially females - once stress starts the high estrogen = less inhibition circuits from frontal cortex that would usually end it ,

ERα stimulation increases behavioural activation or is anxiogenic, and ERβ is generally anxiolytic
This study (Zhang et al., 2002) showed that female rats have greater ERβ in the lateral and medial nuclei of the amygdala and less in the BNST than males. The BNST has been shown to be critically involved in anxiety behaviors

^ females are more sensitive to high estrogen effects on anxiety/stress than males here because there's less ER-B receptor in the BNST part of amygdala to balance the ER-A activation by estrogen ,
in the part of the brain which is a critical part for anxiety / stress
In summary, results show that the inhibition of fear was disrupted in the presence of E in female rats, suggesting that elevated E may render females more vulnerable to the negative effects of stress or emotional trauma than males

Recent postmortem study demonstrated colocalization of CRH neurons with estrogen receptors in the PVN
when arousal was high during late follicular/midcycle timing (i.e., when estrogen was high and progesterone low), arousal cor-related positively with brain activity in the central amygdala
^ higher amydala fear stress center activity during estrogen phase of menstrual cycle
estrogen receptors linked to Corticotropin Releasing Hormone neurons (linked to stress)

Colocalization of corticotropin-releasing hormone and oestrogen receptor-alpha in the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus in mood disorders - PubMed <-- in humans, more corticotropin releasing hormone in depressed brains than controls. Neurons expressing CRH are high in estrogen A receptor.

Higher estrogen lower progesterone phase of cycle = more arousal (= amydyla activity) when arousal was high during late follicular/midcycle timing (i.e., when estrogen was high and progesterone low), arousal co-related positively with brain activity in the central amygdala Hormonal Cycle Modulates Arousal Circuitry in Women Using Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging in humans

(id imagine this is ocd related too for not all but for a subgroup of people with ocd – prefrontal cortex is not inhibiting the excess amygdala activity because of estrogen,
so alternatively might have to do it manually by continually bringing attention back to something else while it dissipates )
Hormones, Mental Health and the Mind/Body Connection.
. Estrogen plays a role in augmenting feelings of anxiety, so high levels of estrogen can increase or lead to the development of OCD symptoms. Conversely, progesterone tends to inhibit anxiety, so a deficiency in that might lead to similar effects on OCD symptomatology (obviously don’t want to crash estrogen too low – or if have low cortisol don’t want high progesterone either)
. a 33-year-old female who was diagnosed with OCD and migraines. This patient’s worsening symptoms seemed to be closely and repeatedly related to her menstrual cycle (a time when estrogen and progesterone levels often rise and fall)

Estrogen mediates sex differences in stress-induced prefrontal cortex dysfunction - PubMed ovariectomized females showed increased stress sensitivity only after estrogen replacement. These results suggest that estrogen amplifies the stress response in PFC, which may increase susceptibility to stress-related disorders.

New study links contraceptive pills and depression estrogen contraceptive pills (or synthetic progestins?) = depression , Contraceptive pills increased women's risk by 73 per cent during the first two years of use.

high Estrogen causes inability of hair to regrow (other side sometimes upping low estrogen can help hair regrowth), Estrogen Leads to Reversible Hair Cycle Retardation through Inducing Premature Catagen and Maintaining Telogen
Clinical observations have demonstrated that estrogen raises the telogen/anagen ratio and inhibits hair shaft elongation of female scalp hair follicles. Due to high levels of plasma estrogens, pregnant women display a slower rate of replacement of spontaneous hair loss or plucked hair [22].).
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC38025/pdf/pnas01526-0483.pdf <--- also shown in female mice that high estrogen blocks hair from regrowing
(one of the possible visual markers of high estrogen in women is thinning hair at temples or thin patches from brushing)

high Estrogen creates cysts
(rat study , both vit a deficiency and estrogen excess causes cyst growth, adequate vit a counters estrogen, –

Mechanism of estrogen causing cysts is excessive keratin production and layered (stratified) / differentiated epithelium.
Epidermoid cysts is the other name for common (Sebaceous) cyst on neck , doesn’t actually involve sebum.
Progestene - Liquid Progesterone (bioidentical) <- comment

keratin buildup involved (estrogen raises keratin) ,

Although the same keratins were expressed by these different compounds, their synthesis was selective, since they often increased 10- to 20-fold while total protein levels only doubled. Keratin levels were correlated with the various degrees of epithelial growth and differentiation observed in parallel histological studies. These results indicate that the expression of vaginal keratins provide a useful model system for the study of estrogen action.
and
Higher BRAF/MEK pathway activities were associated with better survival in estrogen receptor cancers
(BRAF inhibitors cause epidermoid cysts)
