Coupled with my own bias of being inundated with germ theory my whole life; makes it hard to consider other possibilities. I do know the roughly 1.5 million settlers could not have wiped out 90% of the 60 million native Indians very easily.
Although, I have read there was a brief global cooling in the 1600's which brought on harsh winters and cool summers which contributed to deaths. Perhaps the Europeans changed the landscape and ecosystem and additionally ruined the natives way of life.
