The different types of foods you eat do not determine whether you will lose body fat. Calories in, calories out determine that. But the food choice and the macro ratios you do can make the weight loss process easier. In my experience, high protein and high carb with lower fat foods is the best way to lose weight. It worked well for me. The higher protein intake keeps you more satiated, eating enough carbs helps maintain energy as it provides liver and muscle glycogen for your brain and muscles.First of all much love to Ray. May his departed soul be blessed and may his soul bless us all.
Now, Has this happened to anyone else?
I am 50 now and have been gaining weight gradually since my mid / late 30s
Currently 225 lb., 5'10"
I try to avoid extreme diets and the most I have lost was 4lb or so on the "croissant diet".
as a health practitioner my clients often report weight loss, but I have been stuck for years, and have been following Ray's principles for about 10 years.
Recently I revisited a couple of post on Caffeine and decided to try higher amount (up to 1200 mg)
Took caffeine pills twice for 1-2 days (in addition to other caffeine sources, but a total of less than 1200).
On both occasions had major and very uncomfortable acid reflux and significantly increased BM
On both occasions list 3-4 lb. very quickly
On both occasions, once discontinued the caffeine pills the GI discomfort subsided within a couple of days.
By the way, diet generally consists mostly of fruit, cheese (gouda, cheddar - up to 120 g), 2 eggs, 1-2 slices of sour dough rye, cooked root veggies, a bit of raw veggies (radishes, carrots, fennel).
Would love to receive insights and shared experiences re use of caffeine and regarding the things I experienced.
thanks.
Basically this means you need to eat mostly lean protein, save for egg yolks (to valuable to remove, a few egg yolks is worth having every day). Lean muscle meat such as red meat, low fat cheese or milk or even skim milk, a few whole eggs for protein. Your carbs would be starches like rice, potatoes, sourdough bread, fruit and fruit juices which are all pure carbs. All foods are technically allowed but for weight loss purposes, if you want to go the low fat route, this is how it would be done.
But you need to use a TDEE calculator (easily found on google) to determine how many calories you need and then you can cut off 500-1000 calories off of that. Thats how you lose weight in a reasonable amount of time. You need to know how many calories you are eating so that does mean you are going to have to count calories. No way around that.
Caffeine does slightly boosts metabolic rate so if you use it strategically it can make the process faster. Have caffeine (pills or coffee) every 5 hours from the moment you wake up. I am assume you eat within an hour of waking. I wouldn't go higher than 400mg of caffeine a day. It also helps you feel less hungry.
You just need to watch your micronutrient intake since its harder to get enough when you eat less. 3 eggs a day will help you cover a lot of important things, a few cups of low fat or skim milk, at least serving of red meat for zinc, selenium, and B-vitamins. A drop of tocovit or another vitamin E oil will provide you physiological doses of vitamin E. That's it. Everything else should be obtained from the diet if you eat the right foods. If you have some micronutrient gaps your fatigue will be 100x worse on less calories. Really if the diet is nutritious, the fatigue should be very manageable. Macronutrient ratio (Carb, Protein Fat) should be around 60:30:10 if you want to do low fat.
