Recently I’ve noticed when I eat a meal with liver, my digestion is perfect or nearly perfect. This got me thinking about it’s role in gut and immunity. I found these studies and thought I’d share to see what the varying opinions are.

The pleiotropic role of vitamin A in regulating mucosal immunity - PubMed
The effect of vitamin A on mucosal immunity has never been subjected to extensive studies until recently. We started to work in this area in the early 1970s when we observed that children with protein-calorie malnutrition (PCM) often had defective mucosal immunity, judging from the incidence of...

Vitamin A Deficiency Impairs Mucin Expression and Suppresses the Mucosal Immune Function of the Respiratory Tract in Chicks
The chicken immune system is immature at the time of hatching. The development of the respiratory immune system after hatching is vital to young chicks. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of dietary vitamin A supplement levels on respiratory mucin and IgA production in chicks...

Vitamin A prevents the decline in immunoglobulin A and Th2 cytokine levels in small intestinal mucosa of protein-malnourished mice - PubMed
We examined whether vitamin A improved mucosal immune depression in mice with wasting protein deficiency. In male C3H/HeN mice fed a semi-purified 1% protein diet for 2 wk, plasma retinol and immunoglobulin A (IgA) concentrations in the small intestinal mucosa were 50 and 55%, respectively, of...
