I'm confused by a recent blood test which indicates normal serum ferritin levels, but quite low serum iron (8.4 umol/L, European standard, normal range 11.6 - 31.3) as well as low saturation levels. (13%, normal range 20-40%). The rest of my blood work, hemoglobine, hematocrite levels etc is normal.
What does this mean?
I have been under immense stress lately due to unresolved heart issues, have lost my appetite and have been eating a very poor low-carb diet over the past 3-4 weeks.
I understand that high cortisol may deplete serum iron, not sure if I got this right. My cortisol levels came back within the normal range, although on the higher end.
What would be the best and safest way to fix this? Liver?
I also understand that low serum iron may lead to heart palpitations and shortness of breath, which are two of my big issues.
Any advice or help appreciated.
