Peoples thoughts on grain based feed?
Thank you for your email and interest in St. Helen’s Farm.
Our goats are fed a high fibre, nutritionally balanced diet based on red clover leys (arable land used for grass production) that we grow on the farm. The clover is cut a couple of times each season and fed to the goats throughout the year as hay or haylage. Haylage has a higher moisture content than dried hay and has a higher feed value.
The hay/haylage is always available for them to eat and their diet is supplemented with a grain based feed that is carefully blended to maintain an optimum balance of vitamins and minerals. It is a special mix, exclusive to St Helen’s Farm and specifically developed for the benefit of our goats.
What the goats eat can have a direct bearing on the flavour of the milk. We provide the goats with a balanced diet that is designed to keep them in the best of health and produce mild and delicious tasting milk.
