This is an email that I got when i asked what the goats were fed

Peoples thoughts on grain based feed?

Thank you for your email and interest in St. Helen’s Farm.

Our goats are fed a high fibre, nutritionally balanced diet based on red clover leys (arable land used for grass production) that we grow on the farm. The clover is cut a couple of times each season and fed to the goats throughout the year as hay or haylage. Haylage has a higher moisture content than dried hay and has a higher feed value.

The hay/haylage is always available for them to eat and their diet is supplemented with a grain based feed that is carefully blended to maintain an optimum balance of vitamins and minerals. It is a special mix, exclusive to St Helen’s Farm and specifically developed for the benefit of our goats.

What the goats eat can have a direct bearing on the flavour of the milk. We provide the goats with a balanced diet that is designed to keep them in the best of health and produce mild and delicious tasting milk.

What I'm not seeing in this is "organic", "non-gmo", "soy-free"
Asked if they inject covid vaxes into them:

Didnt state if they did, indirect response

Hello again Sam

The only vaccines we use are approved and licensed by the UK Government’ s Veterinary Medicines Directorate and used extensively by farmers in the UK.

St Helen’s Farm are also members of the Red Tractor farm assurance scheme that independently monitors standards of animal welfare, safety, hygiene and environmental practice.

Please do get in touch again with any other queries you may have.

Kind regards

Hello Sam

We are not organic but follow many organic principles in our farming operations, such as limited use of pesticides and use of manure from our goats on to the land.

The rules governing organic production in this country were mainly drawn up with cattle and sheep in mind and would mean that our goats would have to be outside on pasture. However, goats are not grazers like cows and they do not like damp and cold conditions and unlike sheep, they have no water resistant lanolin in their coats.

Our goats are fed a diet of hay or haylage, most of which is cut from grass at our farm here in the Vale of York. This diet is supplemented by a grain-based feed mix, which may contain some 2% soya for essential protein and amino acids. The supply of soya across the whole of the EU is primarily from the Americas, where production is mostly from GM crops that are not always adequately segregated from GM-free crops during storage and transportation. We have taken the view that soya cannot be guaranteed to be GM-free and we therefore do not claim to be free from GM in our goat feed.

Kind regards

Jackie
