Thanks for floating the idea of losing the smart phone (or never getting one in the first place). I tried to start a movement along these lines many years ago (when they were just cell phones).

You'd have to kill me before you will get a smartphone or cell phone into my hand. Or any microwave emitting "device". And any job or business requiring THAT is a business not worth having.

Marshall McLuhan was correct. The Medium is the Message. And the Message of the mobile device Medium is a Message you don't want to get.

It is the "trans-humanising" people talk and warn about. It doesn't need to be implanted under your skin. Why bother when people already willingly hold their "digital identities" close to their hearts and drag them out of pockets during conversations? It snuffs the human out within a few weeks or at most months. No point talking to someone dragging round one of those things. The lights might be on but they ain't home.

I reject the television early and when the smartphone came along it just didn't interest me. I do have a dumb phone but it lives in a faraday bag when I am commuting. Before 2020 I was quite happy to be out without a phone but now I worry I could be taken ill and end up in hospital - I will need my phone to call people to get me out!!
