I'm looking at CO2 tanks for carbonating juice and having trouble deciding since I'm not sure if they can leech metal. Would aluminum CO2 tanks leech aluminum when CO2 is held in them?

Too late. Already ordered. But does anyone have a clue? If CO2 is an acidic gas, it may leech aluminum, no?

I have woefully little chemistry education, but I'd be surprised if it could leach into CO2 because it's a gas. If there is any abrasion involved, maybe that could pose a very small risk? I don't know how the mechanics work either.

The aluminum salt of CO2 would be a solid. The CO2 that makes it into your drink is a gas and not a liquid, so you should be safe.

tara: The CO2 in the tank itself can be a liquid. You can even hear it slosh around.

@kiran, Of course you are right about it being liquid in the tank. I didn't think through that properly.
