Why people assume a disorder is fake/psychological in some cases?

I noticed when it comes to particular disorders like ME/CFS (usually ones with chronic symptoms that aren't directly traceable to a particular dysfunction or show up in any blood tests remarkably off-range) then some assume it is psychosomatic or made-up

Those into Peat and biohacking probably understand better that even if official tests do not show large abnormalities, there can still be a subclinical dysfunction (cases of people with normal blood tests taking T3 or something else and noticing improvement)

I see this profoundly lately with the emergence of long-covid, obviously it is understandable given the reports of vax side effects so one who had never had such effects or any relatives with it from a viral infection itself may assume it must be due to the vaccine

But in some cases like with ME/CFS which has studies that have shown 100% physical markers like increased neural inflammation, there are some people who even if you placed them all the research in front of them and went in depth about the particular imbalance and how it causes the specific symptoms they would insist it is fake or a psy-op or psychosomatic

Have you had such experiences with having some chronic symptoms or imbalance and being said it is psychological and so on?

Yeah, there were a few people here who disregarded my myocarditis symptoms (I'm unvaxed, had covid on early October) . Told me I couldn't have that because I never got vaccinated... So that was a little irritating, but most were helpful and acknowledged my plight. I received quite a few helpful treatment options.

Oh, and I also really appreciate those comments pointing to my supposed dis-health because I don't feel well after eating dairy.

It’s just a common ignorant and arrogant stance in medicine unfortunately and then others follow their example. I lived through it myself for about 10 years when I had CFS. Medicine is still in the dark ages in many ways.

also IBS-C and low acetylcholine symptoms can be misinterpreted by society a lot as psychological.

Doctors especially don’t like to acknowledge anything that doesn’t fit their paradigm and that they can’t treat so they conveniently throw it all in the psych bin.

I think a big reason is that disorders themselves are vague, and poorly defined.

As per your example of "Long Covid," what's really different about those symptoms, and the symptoms of long or lingering flus that have happened in previous years? How does it differ from Lyme Disease? And the answer is..... is basically doesn't. They are all the same basic symptoms, hanging around for a longer period of time than a typical cold. Some people may have more symptoms, some fewer, some will have more severe symptoms, and some more mild. And the duration will vary.

Also, what's the difference between measles, smallpox and chicken pox? And again, the answer is.... nothing, really. Same basic symptoms. Some doctors try to ascribe different causes based on different groupings or size of the pock marks, or differences of concurrent symptoms. But just because someone has a backache with pox and someone else doesn't, that doesn't seem to be enough to say, "Well, the first was caused by the "measles virus" and the second by the "chicken pox virus."

And because smallpox was "eliminated" (really, it was just a baseless WHO declaration), when small pox symptoms presented after the announcement, doctors simply diagnosed it as chicken pox (for the most part) or measles.

So, since the basis of any disease or condition is fluid and arbitrary in medicine, and has been from the beginning, the arbitrary and fluid definitions of conditions will likely continue into the foreseeable future.

Yes. The gaslightning is insane. I woudn't have believed the incompetence and neglect if i didn't experience it on repeat for years.

Lyme, Long covid, fibromalgia, chronic fatigue and others or w/e you want to call them ... their forums and reddits are full of people experiencing this sort of unscientific treatment. One issue is that there are often times alot of co-infections, nutrient deficiencys, heavy metals and other toxins at play that get completly overlooked by the medical field with exception for a few specialists.

Showing "Subclinical function", "100% increased neural inflammation", and "a particular imbalance" isn't proving anything at all, other than a certain correlation with some more or less specific symptoms. But correlation does not equal causation. And since some users here regularly downplay the impact our mind and lifestyle on our bodily functions, it's important to remind them that mental illness does, in fact, cause physical illness, and should always be considered as a possible cause among others.

A friend of mine suffered from arrhythmia, in the form of a racing heartbeat. Thirty or forty years ago, at least one doctor told her it was psychological. Then continuous heart-rate monitors came into use, and lo and behold, she wasn't crazy--her heart rate was clocked at 220 bpm. She underwent cardiac ablation to fix this. (Dr. Peat has mentioned this procedure in a negative way.) I tend to think she probably needed thyroid.

this is the very inability to think critically and the blind acceptance of deterioration and degeneration as "normal" that is at the root of the poor state of health physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually in much of our society and planet. Shining light on this darkness is what this philosophy expressed here on the Forum is all about. Grateful to the tribe here that shares this common mission and wishing all a happy, healthy Peaty (of course) Thanksgiving! So grateful for Dr. Peat and sending him love and healing wherever he may be physically right now; although his spirit and essence are always present with us here every moment.

What gave you CFS and how you treated it?

At a hospital job I was drenched in the face with fluid that had accumulated in a patient’s ventilator tubing over a weeks time. The patient was a burn victim who was positive for klebsiella pneumonia. After becoming very ill myself over the next few days I was put on one round after another of levaquin for 50 days. After not getting well my labs revealed an extremely high titer of Epstein Barr virus.
I’m not sure if it was the exposure, the levaquin, my weak condition from being vegetarian for the previous two years, working 12 hour nights, the divorce I was going through at the time or a combination of them all that caused it?!?!

That was in 1999 and I spent the next decade dealing with conventional medical doctors to no avail. I stopped all pharmaceuticals in 2009, went to a holistic doctor in 2011 who discovered celiac which helped about 50%. I started reading Peat in 2012 and paying more attention to my diet and metabolism and improved further. It was a combination of things that led to my cfs and a combination of things that pulled me out of it so no quick and easy magic bullet unfortunately. On reflection though I’d say diet, lifestyle (just basic things like sensible movement, stress management, time in nature, etc) and thyroid supplementation were the biggest help.

You’re welcome! Thanks for the interest. I’m sure that’s why I try my best to avoid mainstream medicine. :)
