Could Dr. Peat or the others explain
(1) why hypothyroidism increases cholesterol?; and
(2) what is its mechanism by increasing the serum cholesterol, such as increase the synthesis of cholesterol inside cells or reducing its receptors on cell membranes, etc.?

Because thyroid converts cholesterol to other hormones. When there is less thyroid, less cholesterol is converted to the other hormones.

I don't think Ray Peat comments here unless he's using an alias.

1. metabolism slows so conversion of cholesterol to protective steroids slows.

2. The body is not a machine, there are no lipid bilayer membranes studded with receptors.
