Maybe he's referring to the terrible withdrawal effects? If we knew exactly why, then people could go cold turkey without ticks and whatnot. I think some have had success with the anti-serotonin substances after tapering down the dosage.

Yeah, they didn’t want to call it withdrawals. I believe the manufacturers of SSRIs finally acknowledged “Discontinuation Syndromes”.

Receptor systems become downregulated, and upon cessation of the drug, funny things happen.

Tapering off is recommended, but considering that most people get these from a general practitioner, it’s not being done properly.

I also believe Long half life Drug such as Prozac is used to help people taper

I think since serotonin enhances beta-endorphin release, the main reason for withdrawal symptoms is mu-opioid receptor downregulation, potentially strengthening the antidopaminergic grip of kappa-opioid receptors [as seems to occur after (the male, anyway) orgasm].
