There shouldn't be such a thing as "official nutrition policy".

I agree, but this is a travesty even by the government's own double standards for "policy making". They are not even pretending any more that there is anything "impartial" about their (dis)information campaigns.

by the very nature of civilization, the leaders control food...its the most fundamental necessity that can be taxed and supply must be adequate and monitored. The govt basically has a good idea of exactly how much of what food is produced and available for consumption, how many people there are, about how much food is wasted, and they think they know what is required for good health. This may sound bad, but in nations with less people, or nations that need a lot of healthy soldiers (always like this in the past) there was more of an emphasis on the average person being very healthy and energized, it was necessary for the good of their nation. But today, with no draft, and what some may say is an overpopulation situation, in some countries there is less of an emphasis on the abundant health of each citizen...especially when they actually make money off the medical stuff via taxes and theres less SS payment needed is people don't live long after retirement. If America suddenly had to go into war in a physical way and needed all the people it could get, you could bet the recommendations would change drastically. At this point, it seems like they just kind of want people to be sort of healthy until retirement age, but theres no real effort or incentive to promote abundant health and put out official studies and tell people to b weary of advertisers. They just let supplement sellers and advertisers push everything right to the edge of being legal in terms of what claims they make and let them sell almost anything. The USDA and to some extend FDA control the food policy and governance for the most part, but they seem to think whats happening now is ok...which is clearly by observation isn't, so im just assuming they don't care for some reason or have little incentive to change anything...it will eventually come to a point where it will have to be addressed seriously. An example, British WW2 rations accounted for about 3000 calories for the average man, and many people were complaining about not having enough (and not getting enough beer and cigarettes). If you look at rations given to militaries throughout time, they range from 3000-5000 calories, usually towards the upper end. It seems people never had issues about how much to eat or what was good or bad and even cared to look into vitamins, minerals, or anything like that until ww2, after the invention and widespread use of canned food, tinned food, fortified food, dehydrated food, many new preservatives and chemicals, margarine, trans fats, and many more of the modern things that are common and normal now. Peoples health as a whole has been going down on a per capita basis pretty much ever since. It seems not a single one of the experts knows what is going on, theres really no examples of anyone embodying an intelligent non marketing or fear based presence that has proof with their own body and health. The governments recommendations don't work for the vast majority, and they don't seem keen on funding non biased research. So at this point its up to people to find out things for themselves and share information, and basically to ignore most if not all the 'experts' (often salesman). Its a good thing we have high speed internet and forums at this time. Its pretty hard also when what is available in the US is of such poor quality as a whole. I live in a city with about 1.4million people, and theres only about 4 stores in the whole city with quality (acceptable) milk, a total of about 8 rows of shelfspace. That means on a given day to day basis, unless people have their own cow or are traveling many miles outside the city every few days, about maybe 200-400 people out of 1.4 million can get a respectable amount of quality milk each day in this city
