Absolutely the internet is a cancer to society, especially to those who tend to be more socially outcast, the internet gives them freedom they don't have in their everyday life and then they abuse it, use it to meet their needs, and they become extremely depressed and unable to be in their life anymore. So many thoughts, where to begin...
A factor that hasn't been mentioned yet is that kids nowadays grow up with an endless, constant and free stream of high-speed internet porn on every device they own. I was part of the first generation that grew up with internet porn. Was 10 when I first found it, high-speed when I was 13 or 14. It quickly became a habit and later a compulsion. Nowadays six year olds own smartphones and their parents have no idea what content they access every day. I read many stories on different forums on the topic over the years and made my own experiences. The amount of people with depression, low energy symptoms and suicidal thoughts on there is astonishing. Guys who are 16 and can't get an erection with a real woman anymore. Guys who are suicidal because the content they watch is not in line with their values.
Then we have the internet and social media in general. People share only the good stuff on social media. The best holiday pictures, the best moments. They don't share if they have diarrhea (ok, some of them do). What does this do to the perception of young people? They think that everybody is living a great live except them. They feel like failures. Being average or even slightly above average feels like they are nothing but scum.
Plus all the other environmental issues already mentioned.
