From my understanding, Dr. Peat has specifically talked about how concentric exercise can be beneficial for cellular respiration.

Hockey is a physiological stressful activity; the athletes made the choice they are going to live in lactic acid and sustain severe trauma from hard hits and make 6 to 7 figures financially. Weightlifting and lactic acid training is apart of making sure they are prepared for the stressor of hockey. If they do not weight lift, they will not survive the game and make their money.

For an individual that does not play professional hockey, the right quality of strength training can enhance healthy cellular function but also create stability, strength, and range of motion through good movement. If you weight lift with slow eccentric movements and/or little rest in between sets, this can create lactic acid. If you weight lift with lots of rest between sets and the sets are short with little time under tension, then lactic acid production can be less probable as well as emotional stress.

Movement and activity can be largely therapeutic for mind; just making sure you control the quality and quantity is important.
