What Are The Treatments For Leaky Gut?

One of the things that people mention is gelatin. Bone broth might be better than powders, as some people mention some gelatin powders might be high in endotoxin. If I recall correctly pork gelatin more than beef gelatin.

Here's a huge list of things, including glutamine, that supposedly help with leaky gut. It includes citations. Link

I think the glutamine treatment is more dangerous than it's worth. Haidut had a post where it was connected somehow to cancer. I used to take it on the recommendation of my last doctor and I regret it! I would say proceed with caution and research it in depth before supplementing glutamine.

Thanks Blossom, what did you take it with? With meals?

I was wondering if isolated amino acids are no longer isolated, in practical health terms, if we take them with gelatin or milk, or if they have the same effects as taking them isolated.

I took it all by itself with just plain water. It was supposed to be more effective that way. I think taking like that probably makes it more dangerous (just my opinion).

A few things things that influence tight junctions positive and/or induce Treg cells:
-Thyroid hormones
-Vitamin A
-progesterone
-Vitamin D receptor activation
-Short chain fatty acids (fermentation product in the colon)
-zinc and likely other minerals
-probiotics (some)
-Glutamine: which is indeed involed in cancer metabolism, but not sure if the negative outweighs the postive, or if it even induces cancer progession. The fact that glutamine is involved in cancer doesn't say it's harmfull, sugar is involved too as are amino acids. A fact is that people with cancer in the intestinal regions who use glutamine have much higher recover ratios than people who don't use it..

Other things that influence gut permeability (negatively): stress (also via mast cell activation), hormonal issues (i.a. estrogen via various ways), allergens, gluten, cytokines that promote inflammation and also induce MMPs (matrix metalloproteinases), impairment of the migrating motor complex (metabolic or nerve damage, luckily nerves are said to be able to recover completely by time, if given the right conditions and if stress is take away. However the latter is not an easy thing and have some doubts food is enough).

One large, maybe very important issue (read - important for some, and less for others), is how the microbial community influences tight junctions. The immune system plays a huge role in bacterial homeostasis, and the immune system is something we relatively don't know so much about yet.. Maybe antibiotics will help for some regaining their mucosal integrity by easing their disbiosis. As with the recovery of nerve damage, more may be needed in this case.

That's great information suikerbuik. Thanks for adding some information on the glutamine.

The GAPS diet?
"Gut and psychology syndrom" diet
But uses a lot of almonds, just because she uses it to make autistic children accept it. Just suppress this.

She also advocates a lot of fermented food, and maybe not for all....

Also SCD diet seems specialised in leaky guts.
