So hundreds of thousands of people...are suffering from the placebo effect? Experience is the only true knowledge and personal opinion fails to stand up to experiment. People should try such methods out and decide if they work for themselves.
No-fap is just another discipline fad like intermittent fasting. If you have ueber discipline and suppress your body's urges (to eat or masturbate), then all your physical and mental issues will be resolved.

Young high metabolism human beings masturbate the most.

Young high metabolism human beings also abuse heroin/weed/booze the most. Should we tell young people to ever resist their "body's urge" to abuse recreational drugs?

Obviously the answer here, to me, is yes. But can you try explaining why I would resist drugs but not masturbation?

primitive humans didnt eat very much dude. Some days they would go without food at all, and carbs were a luxury. That is part of whyt he average lifespan of primitive man was about 40. A caveman who made it to his 50s was ancient. Yes they boned all the time and there was likely little monogomy, but we have come along way and have evolved into a completed different organism then the men and women who roamed around 30 thousand years ago. As Peat assert, evolution can happen in as little as one generation. But I digress, the most healthy era was not primitive it was likely the classical period.

There is no natural bodily urge "to abuse recreational drugs".

Then by your own definition, is there a "natural" bodily urge to view pornography?

Pornography is not readily available in nature, and neither is heroin.

I never mentioned porn in my posts. Monkeys (and most mammals I understand) masturbate and so did ancient man.

Lol so now you advocate masturbation without pornography? That doesn't sound very realistic to me.

When we talk about fapping, porn watching is implicated. In today's world, they are complimentary. And I think the porn is the real problem here, for different reasons. Mainly it rewards people with pleasure and a dopamine release for taking zero effort. This tricks the brain into thinking it just found a mate and was successful. The millennial generation is having 33% as much sex as their parents, thanks to widespread porno. I think masturbation has a hormonal and subsequent neurological effect that placates and suppresses the peron's thoughts and senses, leading to eventual anhedonia. Masturbation once a month ro so is fine, but everyday, or multiple times a day, with the unnatural assistance of highly degrading (to women) porn is having a poor effect on our society.

Masturbation does definitely promote a narrowed perspective as well as sensory dulling. I think this is a huge reason people masturbate. People often prefer to live in their own little controlled worlds. I would agree that masturbation once a month is fine, but after abstaining from masturbation for a while the act seems pointless. The biggest issue with masturbation seems to be related to energy. In the modern world people are already suffering from poor mitochondrial function and lowered energy levels. Sperm is expensive for the human body to make and requires plenty of nutrients but also energy to make. The result is a condition akin to chronic fatigue syndrome.

ugh i always go in circles on this subject... crazyness. @Constatine You seem like you're in really good health now from what I've read. Do you think if you started jerking it again you would suffer from the same fatigue and lack of motivation that you've experienced in the past again?

I think the question is why is porn so widespread and heavily used, besides novelty, I imagine people are looking for an escape, just like a heroin junkie is looking for an escape. Modern society can be crippling for some.

To a lesser degree probably now that my diet is better but my energy levels and motivation would definitely be lowered.

Lol, I have fapped for 10 years without phone or pc in my own room. Quite possible, enough people fap in bed or in shower, without anything but fantasy.

But yeah, sex is much better. Pro dopamine and testosterone if you ask me.

If you are taking pain killers with opioids in them everyday longterm, that would most likely lead to an opioid dependence/addiction.

Actually no, it wouldn't, necessarily. And to assume it would is to assume correlation = causation. Correlation actually very rarely implies any causation. And those familiar with this concept routinely underesteimate its ramifications. This can't be emphasized enough, especially when discussing complex phenomena like human health.

Not the best analogy mate. Bare in mind that high speed internet, modern day porn and availability of such a vast array of fetish and other porn in the blink of an eye on multiple tabs etc, is a very new phenomenon in human history. Unprecedented.

Do you know what else is unprecedented in human history? Just about everything we do on a daily basis. You may want to look up "naturalistic fallacy."

We are yet to see the longterm results. It is also a multi billion dollar industry that keeps having to get nastier and dirtier and kinkier because people become desensitised and are constantly in need of more intense and aggressive stimulation. Is it worth it to risk your mental and sexual health, your sanity and wellbeing to that? Obsessively watching a vast array of porn and fetish scenarios every day or every other day in front of your computer screen by yourself masturbating is borderline insanity. Think how it would look to someone who came from the 1800s into the future and witnessed like a fly on the wall all these people sitting alone in the privacy of their own homes in front of computer screens jerking away. Scary. It's weird, and just because it has become the norm doesn't subtract from that. Apologies if that offends.

Again, everything we do would look weird to people in the 1800s. To single out "browsing porn" makes no sense.

I hate to be the one to say it, but I'm calling BS.
First of all correlation does not prove causation but it does increase the likelihood that causation exists. In fact the higher the correlation the more likely that causation is indicated. This is how the bulk of science works actually. Scientist look for correlations among independent variables and then devise tests to determine causation. Often with human subjects you can never prove causation for ethical reasons but correlations are taken as good enough proof of causation until shown otherwise. Think smoking and lung cancer for example. To say that correlation very rarely indicates causation is completely untrue. I am curious if you have a source for that?
Do you know what else is unprecedented in human history? Just about everything we do on a daily basis. You may want to look up "naturalistic fallacy."
OK BS again. You really think there is a precedent in human history for the amount of pornography that is available today? When was this? . Today a 12 yo can watch all the scat films he could stomach. When has this happened before?
Again, everything we do would look weird to people in the 1800s. To single out "browsing porn" makes no sense.
And finally one more time BS. The proverb that there is nothing new under the sun comes to mind. Most of the things we do today are very similar to what was done in the 1800s. Here are a few, eating, reading, sleeping, having a conversation, going for a walk in the park, voting for president, and yes jerking off. Now chronically jerking off to a computer screen however would seem a bit odd to a Victorian.

In high school is where the habit turned unhealthy for me.

We had a horseshoe shaped seating arrangement, and I would come in after everyone. I had about 20 meters to walk, in front of everybody seated. This got me concious over whether or not my posture gave my habit the day before away.
I used to walk proud and tall, not for any reason.
Then eventually posture would fall, because of overactive pelvic floor muscles, as my habit progressed

Just find articles on pelvic floor dysfunction and masturbation. I think it's a problem realted to energy and exhaustion. excessive masturbation -> tension in pelvic floor->no relaxation->lower blood flow, lactic acid buildup,-> fascia tension-> compensation-> whole posture affected(they're related, Deep frontal line, anatomy trains)

There is no real need to reference correlation here. I am referring to physiological realities. You are aware that chronic opioid use causes well studied and documented functional and structural alterations in the brain that bring about the symptoms of dependence and "addiction"? If not possibly have a look into it. If you take a rat in a laboratory setting and feed it opioids every day, that rat will then crave opioids, every day. Then, if you withhold from giving that rat opioids it will suffer from physical and psychological craving and withdrawal symptoms, which can be clinically and scientifically measured. This will lead to obsessive and compulsive behaviour to locate possible opioid containing substances. I'm assuming you are aware that this happens with humans as well? I acknowledge it is complex and there are many factors to consider but arguing against physical and psychological opioid dependence from chronic everyday opioid use, saying it is simply a correlation, is not going to help your cause.

Do you know what else is unprecedented in human history? Just about everything we do on a daily basis. You may want to look up "naturalistic fallacy."

The idea, and a large portion of Dr Peat's work, is to identify how best to navigate through the modern world without doing to much that is harsh, stressful and generally detrimental to the organism in the process, while using modern technologies and discoveries in science and medicine etc to buffer some of the negatives faced. An example is red light therapy to counteract blue light as well as lack of exposure to sunlight in the modern lifestyle. There are many other examples as I'm sure you are aware being on this forum. My argument here is that thinking logically, watching porn en masse and obsessively as a means to arouse and masturbate, is one of those detrimental aspects of the modern lifestyle that probably should be acknowledged as such. Now, if you feel that you just crave it, enjoy it and need it too much to give up, then so be it. Once in a while i'm sure is fine, but my point is to be aware that doing it every day or even multiple times per day as many do is obviously going to have an effect on the organism physically, psychologically and emotionally. There are already many reports of this and I'm sure a lot more to come in the future.

We are not talking about "browsing porn". We are talking about chronically and obsessively watching porn on a screen alone everyday, or multiple times per day, in order to get aroused and masturbate. I'm just calling it what it is, i'm not judging i'm just saying it should be acknowledged for how strange it has become and the obviously forceable detriment it could have to the person doing it.

Opioid use is correlated with but does not cause opioid abuse.

Many people fit into the "use but don't abuse" category. This poses a significant problem for the "opioids are addictive" theory.

You're all over the place here.

Most importantly though: you're making claims without evidence.

I'm pointing out to others on these forums that masturbating with porn multiple times per day is likely completely harmless.

The burden (and it's a large one) of proof is on you.

We are not talking about "browsing porn". We are talking about chronically and obsessively watching porn on a screen alone everyday, or multiple times per day, in order to get aroused and masturbate. But it's no stranger than modern technology and modern culture itself. Repeating your illogical answers doesn't make them more logical.

We have been talking about dependence and addiction, not abuse. There is a definitive distinction.

Many people fit into the "use but don't abuse" category. This poses a significant problem for the "opioids are addictive" theory.

Again, we are not discussing "abuse" but rather dependence and addiction and how it relates to the topic at hand. The discussion of abuse and what constitutes it is a very different one.

Your all over the place here. Most importantly though: you're making claims without evidence. I'm pointing out to others on these forums that masturbating with porn multiple times per day is likely completely harmless. The burden (and it's a large one) of proof is on you.

I am saying that it seems rational and logical that chronically and obsessively masturbating to porn alone on a computer screen daily, or multiple times per day, would have an effect on a person on multiple levels; particularly with everything that is known through studying Ray Peat and others, not to mention the mounting evidence, testimony and case studies pointing toward it's detriment. That may not seem logical to you and that's fine, each to their own. You do you man, no pun intended

That's much more interesting, did you find ways to correct these issues? I'd bet yoga, squat and some particular form of breathing would help, but curious if you found other helpful stuff.

Thanks! I was reminded of this when the question was laid out, so I haven't adressed it directly yet.
Breathing I bet. Articles » Hans Lindgren DC I gained a lot of insight from this guy.
after 2 months stretches to correct anterior pelvic tilt, I'm starting to feel my pelvis fall back on my feet(it feels distinct in the lumbar muscles). I litteraly think "touch ground" and this let me focus on putting the lumbar spine back above the pelvis, and from there down to the heels.
This and then "pushing" rolling my femurs to the sides and down(lying on back, in bed, in neutral tilt), here I have a lot of muscles that feels very sore/tight, and it feels good to do it focused and slowly.
It feels like these two combined, have affected my pelvic floor, mainly from observing organs involved.
