Viruses Cant Replicate

Peat has mentioned that the common understanding of viruses replicating and spreading is not correct. Although I think in a typical Ray Peat fashion he did not elaborate -- it was an off the cuff remark. Dr Ronald Brown in a recent episode of GetFitWithJodelle also mentioned this counter view of virology -- and mentioned that virsuses cannot replicate but are rather cell waste products. Can anyone elaborate on this, or even better share studies, treatises and other bio/medical information / papers. Thanks
