I does not work well. This is why we have Magnoil. MgCl is mostly soluble in water and not ethanol. So, adding ethanol to a saturated solution of MgCl will make it precipitate.

What do you mean adding ethanol? Niacinamide powder still dissolve in magnesium chloride
