Thyroid Meds Causes My Acne?

Hey guys,

I'm a 27 y.o. male that started to have light acne issues (mostly on the forehead) about 2.5 years ago. Since then, I've been on Doxycycline and Vitamin D to treat it. Depending on my diet and time of the years, I managed to control it pretty well.

About 4 months ago, I've been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and prescribed Synthroid. I took 25mcg for the first 2 months and I've been on 50mcg for the last 2.

For about the last 4 weeks, I've noticed that my acne breakouts have become a lot more severe. I used to have 1 or 2 pimples maximum at the same time, but nous I have more than 10.

I'm wondering if my increased dose of Syntroid (T4) could explain this? Is there a known link between thyroid meds and acne? Any testimonies?

thanks

With an increased metabolism, you could be using up more of your Vitamin A (a deficiency can cause acne).

That's an interesting hypothesis.

I think I will decrease the Syntroid dosage while keeping the same diet for a while to see if that has any positive impact.
