Things That Cause Overheating, Things That Cause Hyperventilation. Can Anyone Make Sense Of This?

Make me very hot (in descending order)...
Coffee
Alcohol
Coconut oil
Eggs/bacon fat
Gelatin

-Told by digestion specialist my liver is 'angry'.
-Believe I have gallstones
-Never a big sweater or smelly. Since I started falling apart 5 years ago...and beginning a physical job, I have had bad B.O. This symptoms has improved since began Peating 2 months ago. 15 yr history LCHF.

Make me hyperventilate (in descending order)...
Niacinamide
Pastured chicken liver
Papaya juice
Dandelion Leaves
L-Ornithine
Magnesium
Gelatin (maybe)

-I have had unbalanced breathing for 7 years. These things make me actually hyperventilate out of control.

-I know that the last 4 are nervous system relaxers. Possibly the first 2 also?

-I never take any supplements in a big amount. I know better! I usually take 1/4 or less of a pill.

Any ideas anyone? :thankyoublue

My first thought is histamine, you might not be processing histamine efficiently due to liver problems and this can lead to build up and overflow (this phenomenon is commonly called histamine intolerance). Digestive problems and stress can also make you allergic/immune sensitized to many random things. There could be irritating/allergenic excipients in your supps. Histamine can easily cause breathing/hot flash/panic problems, it will make your heart race and your blood vessels dilate. Following Peat recommendations, prior to making a ton of modifications for myself, made some of my allergy/histamine problems worse because for me the mineral balance is all wrong, I need way more magnesium and zinc to handle so much calcium.

Thank you artist for your thoughts! My brain is so bad that I completely forgot that histamine is probably connected to the overheating. I too actually had my first real histamine response a month into Peating. Based on the symptoms I know that this is something that's been lurking behind the scenes for a long time. I'll have to look more into how it can affect breathing.

I read that vitamin C reduces histamine, and I just started taking magnesium too. Any other thoughts on ways to decrease histamine load?

Protein is the number one thing that helps me. Meat consumption specifically helps a lot, but a mix of meat, dairy, and protein powder is how I hit my protein mark. When I slack on the protein my health spirals and my histamine problems get really bad really fast.

The breathing I think has to do with the general heightened anxiety that comes with histamine overflow (although it's a bit chicken/egg situation because stress in itself raises histamine), I go right into hyperventilation when histamine is high.

Protein? That's a high histamine food, isn't it? Well our bodies are all so complex and have their own quirks/needs. Peating does definitely help a person to learn and understand their body...something most people can't do today.

Thanks to you I did some more histamine research and learned some very interesting things.

1. High carb intake increases it! Explains why it's
so rampant on this forum.

2. Vitamin C is great for decreasing it. Just so happens I made marmalade the other day based on Peat's recommendations. So delicious! Here's a study that refers to histadine and naringenen (from orange rind):

Int J Tissue React. 1983;5(4):415-20.
The gastric anti-ulcer activity of naringenin, a specific histidine decarboxylase inhibitor.
Parmar NS.
The gastric anti-ulcer activity of a specific histidine decarboxylase inhibitor naringenin, the aglycone of naringin, a naturally occurring flavanone glycoside obtained from kino and grapefruits, has been studied on the various types of ulcers experimentally induced in rats, viz., pylorus-ligated (Shay method) and restraint ulcers, and on the gastric mucosal damage induced by aspirin, phenylbutazone or reserpine. Naringenin possessed significant anti-ulcer activity in all these models, manifesting a dose-dependent anti-ulcer effect on the pylorus-ligated and restraint ulcers. However, the ED50 value against ulcers in the pylorus-ligated rats (132 mg/kg) was significantly greater than that against ulcers in the restraint rats (42 mg/kg). Amongst all the models used, naringenin was found most effective against the restraint rats. It is suggested that a mechanism involving the inhibition of formation and release of endogenous histamine in the gastric mucosa of rats is implicated in the protective effect of naringenin.

3. Papaya is one food that is full of anti-histamines. It's juice in a large qty also made me hyperventilate! My breathing problem has been ongoing for 10 yrs. I lost my job, house, daughter, and 40 pounds in 4 months sitting on a couch when it escalated 7 yrs ago. Now I have unbalanced overbreathing. I also discovered that overbreathing/low CO2/lactic acid build up causes histamine build up. Very interesting article! (which of course I can't find now) So this has led me to understand that my hyperventilating is likely related to things that lower histamine/raise CO2. All good things, but my body isn't used to the healthy levels of CO2, so hyperventilates. Sucks.

Thanks...it's been enlightening! :cat:
