Cool. Nice find.
Not exactly standard dose though at 100-200 mg daily. closer to the dose required for cognitive, renal and diabetes support (compare to daily RDA of 1.2 or so mg).

Will Benfotiamine work the same?

I believe benfothiamin's advantage for the nervous system is in that it is fat soluble and may more easily be assimilated into such tissues.
However, I have no reason to believe that regular thiamin won't make its way into nervous system cells where it is used for a variety of standard metabolic reactions.
